The Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine at UC Irvine Health School of Medicine is dedicated to the diagnosis and understanding of human diseases through biomedical and clinical research. Using the latest technologies, our pathologists help advance medicine by finding better ways of diagnosing, managing and treating diseases. Within the Department, the Experimental Tissue Resource is a shared resource that serves clinical trials histology requests, as well as human and animal tissue histology for basic research. The Clinical Research Coordination will be a part of team critical to the support of an NIH funded project to help in our understanding of normal human brain function and the underlying mechanisms of a variety of human neurological and neuropsychiatric diseases. In this role, the applicant will be responsible for contacting various hospital departments to identify potential brain donors, address inclusion/exclusion criteria for the study, be on site to approach donors or families of donors when required, and to arrange brain donation with the UCI MIND brain tissue repository team. The incumbent will provide IRB application support, contribute to outreach and education and develop partnerships (e.g. Willed body). In addition, the coordinator will help the Experimental Tissue Resource unit with inventory related tasks such as recording of current frozen inventory in Excel worksheet and the Freezerworks program, labeling specimens, searching storage location for specimens using Sunquest, Iron Mountain inventory, retrieval of slides, FFPE blocks or other specimens from storage.
