The NCI-designated Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center (CFCCC) is a campus-wide multidisciplinary matrix organization whose goal is to promote and enhance cancer-relevant research and patient care at UC Irvine. The CFCCC provides research resources to its ~175 members engaged in research and offers multidisciplinary cancer care to its patients. As the CFCCC’s centralized office for cancer clinical research operations, the Stern Center provides high-quality, cost effective and efficient assistance with developing, activating and completing scientifically impactful cancer clinical trials. The Stern Center consolidates the management of cancer clinical research operations and is a visionary and best-practice leader in clinical research operations at the institution, managing the largest portfolio of clinical trials at UCI. At any given time, the CFCCC Stern Center manages approximately 250 active, or in development, clinical trials. With this large and dynamic clinical trial portfolio, the CFCCC consistently maintains accounts receivable totaling $4.5M for work performed and costs incurred. In order to minimize significant financial risk to the University and ensure the success of the mission of the CFCCC, it is critical for these funds to be paid in timely manner, requiring the highly focused attention of trained and dedicated staff. Your Role on the Team Responsible for clinical research financial administration. The primary responsibility is interfacing directly in a professional manner with business partners in the pharmaceutical, medical device and clinical research organization (CRO) industries to administer the accounts receivable for a large clinical trial portfolio under the management of the CFCCC Stern Center for Cancer Clinical Trials and Research. Uses professional financial services concepts. Applies organization policies and procedures to resolve a variety of moderately complicated issues. Works on financial services problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. What It Takes to be Successful Required: Working knowledge of financial processes, policies and procedures. Strong knowledge of financial data management and reporting systems. Proficiency in the use of spreadsheet and database software. Strong interpersonal skills, analytical skills, service orientation, active listening, critical thinking, attention to detail, ability to multi-task in a high volume environment, organizational skills, effective verbal and written communication skills, sound judgment and decision making. Ability to function effectively as a member of a team. Ability to adapt to changing priorities. Intermediate knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources. Skills to provide coaching and mentoring to support staff. Demonstrated financial acumen and experience with complex business processes Demonstrated ability to apply and implement creative solutions to complex problems Ability to establish and maintain detailed and accurate files and records Demonstrated high-level communication skills to convey information in a clear, concise and persuasive way, synthesizing information and presenting it to others Willingness to work as a supportive, cooperative member of an interdisciplinary team Ability to multitask and meet deadlines, despite interruptions Ability to independently exercise discretion and sound judgment Ability to prioritize assignments and achieve high productivity and quality with short time frames, under rigid deadlines, and /or in environments with frequent workload changes and competing demands Skill in working independently, taking initiative and following through on assignments High level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality Bachelor’s degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training 3-5 years of related work experience in clinical research and/or financial administration responsibilities Preferred: Experience with clinical trial agreements and clinical research billing principles Knowledge of UC Irvine’s financial systems including KFS, DSS, Data Warehouse, PI Report Experience working in a Clinical Trials Management System (CTMS), preferably Oncore Experience managing finances for oncology-specific trials Total Compensation In addition to the salary range listed below, we offer a wealth of benefits to make working at UCI even more rewarding.
