Job Summary The Caltech Library seeks a full-time, temporary Collection Maintenance Assistant. The Collection Maintenance Assistant is a cross-departmental role that will assist members of Access and Collections Services (ACS) and the Research Services (RS) departments to enhance the Library’s collection. The mission of the Caltech Library is to provide access to library resources and information services of the highest quality in a timely, cost-effective manner in support of the research and educational programs of the Institute. This is a benefits-eligible position, working 40 hours per week for a period of six to nine months. The first month will focus on training with and providing assistance to members of ACS to gain a thorough understanding of the library’s physical collection life cycle. In the following months, the Maintenance Collection Assistant will support ACS and RS on a project-focused basis. Some projects may overlap and depend on the availability of researchers and faculty. Job Duties Physical collection maintenance, including moves, re-labeling, inventory, and other duties as assigned. Records management using our Library Services Platform (LSP). Gather data related to physical collections to aid RS in decision-making. Transport materials to different locations on campus. Other projects as needed. Basic Qualifications Interest in learning about library operations with a focus on collections. Experience using office equipment such as copiers and printers. Experience using standard office software (document editing, spreadsheets) on PC. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing and follow verbal and written directions. Ability to lift up to 25 pounds. Preferred Qualifications Library experience desired. Working knowledge of Google Suite, specifically Google Sheets. Knowledge of ILS/LSP systems (such as FOLIO) and Microsoft Office.
