Department Summary Infrastructure Services provides flexible, reliable, and secure traditional and cloud infrastructure services (network services, platform services, data center operations and management, and unified communications) enabling connectivity, productivity, and security for UCLA. Infrastructure services strives to optimize performance increasing storage, elevating the network, and reducing downtown. Position Summary The Communications Infrastructure Engineer will plan, design, document, coordinate, and schedule the delivery of IT infrastructure for voice and data services and repairs for large technology-based IT projects. This role will support both current and future network needs across the university. The Communications Infrastructure Engineer will assist in collaborating, coordinating, and consulting with UCLA departments, vendors, internal ITS teams, technicians, and analysts to deliver communication technologies. The Communications Infrastructure Engineer will strive to deliver best-in-class services for the university. The Communications Infrastructure Engineer will positively impact UCLA’s operations and culture by ensuring UCLA’s IT infrastructure is operable, secure, efficient, and effective in service of the university’s academic mission. This team member will advance the University’s mission by delivering exceptional information technology services comprehensively and consistently across faculty, staff, and students. This role will execute UCLA’s vision while modeling UCLA’s culture and values. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications Three years experience working in one or more of the following fields: communication infrastructure, information technology or network operations, or a related field. (Required) Proven experience supporting large-scale network implementations and upgrades. (Required) Experience with the installation and maintenance of conduits, fiber-optic cables, and copper cables. Experience designing outside plant conduit and cable infrastructure systems. (Required) Experience designing the layout of horizontal cable pathways, telecom rooms, and backbone infrastructure. Experience with network implementations. (Required) Five years or more experience working in one or more of the following fields: communication infrastructure, information technology or network operations. (Preferred) Experience in complex higher education environments, serving academic and administrative functions of a large public university (Preferred) Knowledge of state and local NEC and NFPA codes and standards. Knowledge of telecommunication industry (ANSI/ITA/EIA) and BICSI standards. (Required) Strong written and verbal communication skills and is able to communicate technical information and ideas to a diverse community of colleagues and stakeholders. (Required) Able to establish and advance positive working relationships and a strong rapport with team members, stakeholders, and customers. (Required) Strong organizational skills and is able to balance competing priorities and support concurrent projects. Ability to work in a project-based environment using project management practices. (Required) Strong demonstrated problem-solving skills; scopes solutions based on knowledge of available resources and timelines. (Preferred) Special Conditions for Employment This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that includes regular visits to campus as needed (for those who work remotely, travel/lodging expenses are not eligible for reimbursement). The anticipated pay range for this position is $102,740-$119,541, annually; salary is dependent upon the skills and experience of the selected finalist.
