Compensation Services in Campus Human Resources is charged with administering salary programs for the world-class staff who are employed by UCLA. In collaboration with department leadership and Human Resources professionals, the Compensation Manager oversees the full range of compensation services provided to UCLA campus organizations. The scope of duties includes campus-wide compensation analysis, job evaluation services in support of campus client departments; collaborating with the Associate Vice Chancellor/CHRO in designing and delivering compensation strategy and training for a variety of audiences; providing advice on the application of policies and procedures related to classification and compensation; conducting market studies; and overseeing market data collection and analysis. The Compensation Manager provides leadership to the Compensation team and ensures outstanding customer service to campus partners while working in a collegial and collaborative manner; serves as a member of the CHR/IT initiatives leadership team for implementation of the JDXpert position description management system; and provides compensation expertise and guidance on other campus-wide projects, as well as representing the UCLA campus on systemwide compensation committees, such as the Career Tracks Steering Committee.

Department Summary

Campus Human Resources provides a full range of human resource management services through its various units, including Health and Welfare Benefits, Compensation and Classification, Personnel Policy development and compliance, Employee and Labor Relations, Talent Acquisition and Workforce Planning, HR Information Systems, the Staff and Faculty Counseling Center, Learning and Organizational Development and the HR/Payroll Operations Center. The UCLA Compensation Unit is responsible for the classification and reclassification of positions, managing classification systems, and overseeing wage and salary programs in collaboration with campus stakeholders. Additionally, the Compensation Unit administers JDXpert, a comprehensive position description management system and workflow engine designed to facilitate classification and reclassification requests.

Salary & Compensation

*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications

  • 5-10 years At least 5?10 years of compensation-related experience. (Required)
  • Progressive experience as a manager. (Required)
  • Experience working in a unionized environment, preferably in the public sector, healthcare, and/or higher education (Preferred)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of compensation and job evaluation theories, practices, and systems. (Required)
  • Knowledge of federal regulations, such as the Fair Labor Standards Act. (Required)
  • Demonstrated managerial and supervisory skills such as delegating responsibility, training, motivating, hiring, coaching, counseling, and evaluating performance. (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience with compensation programs including the classification of positions using various job evaluation systems, salary survey methodologies, market analysis, equity programs, and incentive plans. (Required)
  • Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering consultation and training in a manner that improved compensation literacy for the organization. (Required)
  • Excellent written, verbal, and oral presentation abilities to effectively communicate complex compensation matters that require technical expertise, business acumen, and strategic problem-solving. (Required)
  • Skill and flexibility in prioritizing assignments to complete work promptly when faced with changes in assignments, demanding deadlines, competing requirements, and heavy workload. (Required)
  • Ability to exercise a high degree of judgment when identifying, evaluating, and providing solutions to complex issues. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully contribute to large-scale projects including the ability to assist in the development, implementation, and execution of project plans using software programs. (Required)
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and strong MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills. (Required)
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and collaboration skills to work with a variety of clients, employees, and colleagues. (Required)
  • Proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and data visualization. (Preferred)

Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience (Required)
  • Master’s Degree or equivalent education in a related field of study (Preferred)
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) (Preferred) Or
  • Certified Executive Compensation Professional (CECP) (Preferred)
