The The mission of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is to support undergraduate, graduate and professional school student development, empowerment and success through connection with dedicated diverse staff who provide mental health services that encourage Health, Healing, and Hope.. Caps CAPS Clinicians provide short-term, high-quality culturally affirming mental health treatment including assessment, consultation and case management; group and individual therapy; and psychiatry services. In addition, CAPS provides culturally responsive community mental health training and wellness education in collaboration with the Resilience in your Student Experience (RISE) Center. Clinical services are confidential and available to regularly enrolled students.
Position Summary
The Core Clinician position is essential to the Bruin Mobile Compassionate Response (CORE) Team, which provides mobile mental health crisis intervention for students in distress within the UCLA campus community. This role requires advanced expertise in counseling theories to conduct onsite clinical consultations, risk assessments, and crisis interventions, including de-escalation and safety planning. Clinicians work independently in the field, coordinating closely with campus partners, including UCPD, to manage acute crises and facilitate hospitalization when needed. They are responsible for ongoing clinical coordination and case management, ensuring continuity of care for clients post-crisis by overseeing referrals and treatment plans, particularly for complex mental health cases. CORE clinicians also collaborate with students to stabilize situations in the least restrictive manner, aiming to reduce repeat crises and hospitalizations while minimizing law enforcement involvement during psychiatric emergencies. Additionally, they support other CAPS clinical teams and participate in postvention responses for students affected by adverse events. A key aspect of the role includes developing and delivering training and education on mental health and crisis management to faculty, staff, and students, as well as participating in campus-wide crisis response initiatives. CORE clinicians work full-time (40 hours) between 9 AM and 9 PM Specific working hours will be determined prior to start date. Limited weekend availability may be occasionally required for emergency and postvention response. CORE clinicians maintain knowledge of community and campus referrals to ensure that clients are referred to appropriate resources and levels of care, and monitored to ensure linkage when indicated. This position is fully in-person. There is no option for hybrid or remote work. There is a potential one-year housing benefit to be included in compensation package.
