Job Description:

Work must be performed 3 days a week at Pasadena, CA office.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Oversee engineering work performed for multiple jurisdictions.
  • Review’s work produced to ensure that applicable codes, standards, and procedures are followed, and quality is acceptable.
  • Monitor’s productivity and technical proficiency of assigned personnel.  Makes staffing assignments and reassignments as project needs arise.
  • Conducts performance evaluations, takes corrective action as necessary, recommends promotions and salary actions, and recommends training and development for assigned personnel.
  • Helps to define discipline design organization and participation on a project, including scope of work, design criteria, schedules, standards, and procedures.
  • Determines budget estimates and staffing requirements for the defined scope and schedule.
  • Supervises the production of project drawings and design calculations.
  • Promotes technical excellence on the project, including furthering the Quality Improvement Process.
  • Ensures that discipline design work is coordinated with project staff and Engineers from other disciplines by maintaining clear and frequent communications.
  • Advises engineering and project management regarding any problem areas, staffing requirements, delays in production, scope changes, or other events which could affect project completion and/or profitability.
  • Initiates and/or reviews change order requests for additions, deletions, or changes to the original scope of work.
  • Ensures that adequate checking is performed in accordance with discipline checking policy and procedures.
  • Recommends design methods, equipment use, etc., for discipline standards.
  • Maintains affiliation with professional societies to keep abreast of current technologies.
  • Recommends and prepares technical papers.
  • Performs complex engineering tasks and particularly important engineering work efficiently and accurately.
  • Provides design of complex HVAC systems for hospitals, laboratories, industrial facilities, process and chemical plants and other special ventilation and air conditioning projects for data centers, clean rooms, government and commercial buildings.
  • Prepares engineering computations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, surveys, and designs as needed for HVAC system documentation.
  • Perform industry-standard (ASHRAE or equivalent) energy audits. This will require working independently to develop action plans prior to executing energy audits, properly organizing information gathered, and identification of recommendations.
  • Perform industry-standard energy calculations (such as weather-based BIN calculations and trends analysis).
  • Assist or perform existing building commissioning. Understanding of industry standard commissioning procedures or techniques is preferred. 
  • Read and write sequences of operations, as well as analyzing drawings and specifications to determine facility operational characteristics.
  • Analyze data and building management system programming for performance and energy savings improvements.
  • Provides technical guidance to Revit Designer/Drafters, Designers, and lower-level Engineers working on the same project.
  • Performs other responsibilities associated with this position as may be appropriate.

What Required Skills You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (or related field).
  • 15+ years of related work experience.
  • Professional Engineer registration in multiple jurisdictions may be required.
  • Proven ability to perform in a supervisory capacity.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of industry practices and regulations are required.
  • Working knowledge of HVAC cooling-heating load analysis software is required.
  • Familiarity with Trane Load Design and Trane Trace is required.
  • Must be familiar with the IMC – International Mechanical Code as well as Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC)

What Desired Skills You’ll Bring:

  • Prior US Federal project experience highly desirable.
  • Fundamental knowledge of ASHRAE and IMC, UMC, ASME, IPC, UPC and ANSI codes highly desirable.
  • Knowledge of cryogenic delivery and productions systems a plus.
  • Knowledge of plumbing, industrial piping, fixed and rotary equipment, and heat transfer a plus.
  • Familiarity with LEED requirements with a LEED BC&D certification is desired.  Familiarity with California Title 24 also desired.
  • Working knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1, 62.1, 55, ASHRAE 170 AND SMACNA 006-2006 is desired.
  • Assist or perform existing building commissioning. Understanding of industry standard commissioning procedures or techniques is preferred. 
  • Familiarity with eQuest /DOE-2 and Building Life Cycle Cost (BLCC) software is desired.

Salary Range: 

$104,200.00 – $210,600.00
