Bard NYC is accepting applications for a Director of the Bard NYC study away program. The Director of the Bard NYC program is a senior administrative leader, overseeing essential components of the study-away experience, working both with on-site staff and senior members of Bard College?s administration in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY. Key aspects of the position include: Academics: course and curriculum planning, faculty oversight, evaluation of academic offerings Internships: maintaining and expanding internship partnerships and opportunities, oversight of student experience, working with students on internship placements and guiding their experience Co- and Extra-curricular programming: organizing and leading student-focused co-curricular events, planning and oversight of career exploration and readiness programming as well as cultural and social programming focused on students? New York City experience Day to day operations of the program, including staff supervision, work with program participants and faculty, program admissions and evaluation, planning and leading orientation and general oversight of student experience and the Bard NYC program as a whole Teaching one course per semester In addition to reporting directly to the Executive Director of Bard NYC, the Director works closely with the Faculty Advisor to the Bard NYC program, the Director of the MA in Global Studies, the Dean of the College, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of Studies, the Registrar, and other members of the College?s leadership, including from among Bard?s academic divisions and programs. About Bard NYC Bard NYC is an undergraduate experiential learning study-away program in New York City, which pairs academic study with pre-professional internships. Both semester and summer programs are offered. A semester combines 12-16 credits from a selection of unique interdisciplinary courses, including a core-seminar, with an internship of 20-25 hours per week. The experience is accompanied by co- and extra-curricular programming to help students explore career paths and build professional networks, as well as cultural and social programming to introduce students to New York City. The program builds off of the success of the Bard Globalization and International Affairs, which welcomed students from around the world for more than twenty years. Expanded academic and internship offerings allow students from a wide array of majors and career interests the opportunity to participate. Bard NYC is an enterprising intersection of academics and applied practices, engaging the interests of Bard?s students and their peers from other U.S. and global institutions. Academic rigor, creative and critical thinking, and commitment to fostering a community that supports diversity and accessibility is at the heart of all programs associated with Bard College, and the Program Director will excel at working with and advocating for the diverse student body enrolled in the program. Students in Bard?s MA in Global Studies live and learn at the same New York City location as the Bard NYC program, with shared co- and extra-curricular programming, necessitating close collaboration between the programs on all aspects of student experience. Position Overview The Program Director is charged with advancing and strengthening the impact of this creative and enterprising endeavor. It is expected that in addition to the essential duties associated with the position, the Program Director will also work closely with a team of colleagues to increase enrollment, strengthen academic and internship offerings, and network and integrate institutional partners from across the U.S. and the globe. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape and enhance a dynamic experience for students. The Program Director works hand in hand with the Faculty Advisor to the program at Bard College to build and oversee innovative curricula that meets Bard’s standards for academic rigor. The program?s curriculum (including core seminars) will strongly incorporate the New York City location and emphasize experiential learning. In addition to administrative duties, the Director teaches one course each semester. Essential Duties Oversight of all aspects of the Bard NYC program, with a focus on student experience Developing and leading academic support structures including advising, tutoring, and library access Close work with the Bard NYC Faculty Advisor on curricula planning and development Supervision of faculty and review of course evaluations Work, in collaboration with the Faculty Advisor, with the Bard College Registrars Office, Dean of the College, Dean of Studies and other colleagues at Bard College on student enrollment, and other administrative aspects of the academic program Build, grow and maintain a portfolio of internship organizations to increase and diversify student opportunity Oversight of the internship program, including internship placements and working with internship mentors to ensure that students have engaging and manageable experiences Develop, oversee and lead co-curricular programming, career development and readiness programming, cultural and social programming focused on New York City, and program orientation Program admissions Regular program evaluation Work closely with the marketing and recruitment team to promote the program Close work with residence life/student life staff on issues of student wellness Required Qualifications At least five years of administrative experience in higher education Experience with program oversight, staff management, and teaching Familiarity with experiential learning models and civic engagement activities An understanding of internships, including as part of the undergraduate experience Strong working knowledge of New York City Preferred Qualifications PhD or equivalent, or other relevant terminal degree is highly desired Demonstrable experience related to study-away programming Career/professional development experience Student life/student wellness experience Please submit a cover letter, resume, and list of three professional contact references to Interfolio. Compensation : $82,000-$90,000 This salary range reflects the College’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the compensation for the position at the time of the job posting. Salary decisions are dependent on several factors including but not limited to market and organizational considerations, experience, and qualifications of a selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
