Director of Development The Director of Development will be a pivotal leader in the school’s advancement efforts, overseeing critical aspects of both annual giving and major gift operations. Combining strategic vision, relationship management, and operational oversight, this role will be instrumental in inspiring transformative philanthropy and advancing the university’s mission. The Director will focus on cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding donors capable of making gifts ranging from $3,600 to $50,000 annually, with a particular emphasis on multi-year, unrestricted pledge commitments. This position also leads the day-to-day operations of the major gifts program, fostering a culture of gratitude and ensuring alignment with institutional priorities, with the support of the Assistant Director of Annual Giving and the Assistant Director of Development. Integral to driving unrestricted giving and scholarship support, the Director will work collaboratively with the Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Development and Alumnae Relations to ensure effective pipeline management and strategic planning, positioning the university to meet and exceed annual fundraising goals. Work Location: Doheny Campus (Downtown Los Angeles). Hybrid Work Schedule. Duties and Responsibilities: Develops and executes annual giving and major gift strategies including donor visits to achieve fundraising goals, emphasizing unrestricted funds, scholarships, and reunion giving Oversees the day-to-day operations of annual giving and manage the major gifts program, ensuring timely and effective execution of appeals, donor communications, and stewardship activities. Manages, cultivates, solicits, and stewards a portfolio of donors capable of contributing $3,600 to $50,000 annually, focusing on multi-year, unrestricted pledge commitments. Utilizes GiveCampus technology to manage the reunion giving program, working with alumni volunteers and class ambassadors to build participation and drive class gift efforts. Partners with the AVP to ensure effective donor pipeline management and long-term strategic planning for leadership annual and major gifts, ensuring a consistent flow of qualified prospects. Monitors progress toward annual giving participation and financial goals, working with Advancement Services to manage reporting, data analysis, and donor segmentation; Collaborate with Advancement Services to analyze donor trends, manage projections, and inform future fundraising strategies. Supervises and mentors the Assistant Director of Development and Assistant Director of Annual Giving to optimize stewardship, giving societies, and reunion campaigns. Partners with Communications to create compelling solicitation and stewardship materials that emphasize donor impact. Designs and executes targeted reunion giving strategies, focusing on building momentum for class gift efforts in the years leading up to milestone reunions. Ensure all donor interactions and strategies are well-documented in RENXT within 48 hours to enhance relationship management and future planning. Partners with the Communications team to create impactful solicitation and stewardship materials focused on donor impact Collaborates with the Alumnae Relations and Events teams on additional projects that support the overall mission and fundraising goals of the institution. Performs other duties as assigned. Other Duties and Responsibilities: Responsible for up to 35% of the travel required for the Individual Giving Team Contributes to the overall success of the University by assuming primary responsibility for special projects as assigned and performing all other duties and responsibilities in a timely, thorough and professional manner. Oversees and manages contracted vendors for various fundraising projects relations to Individual Giving including some vendors in annual giving and donor relations Job Requirements: Knowledge: Proficiency in CRM systems (e.g., RENXT, Salesforce) and Microsoft Office Suite. Abilities and Skills: Results-driven, self-motivated, and creative in developing strategies to engage and solicit donors. A team player with a positive attitude, flexibility, and a strong commitment to supporting the institution’s mission. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build meaningful relationships with donors and key stakeholders. Highly organized, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines. Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team in a hybrid work environment. Education: Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a related field such as nonprofit management, business, communications, or public relations. Experience: Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in development, fundraising, or a related field, with experience in managing annual giving operations and donor portfolios. Proven track record of securing annual gifts and managing leadership annual giving portfolios. Other Requirements: The position is based at the Doheny Campus in Los Angeles, with the flexibility to work in a hybrid setting. Occasional travel and evening/weekend work may be required for donor visits and fundraising events.
