The Director of Finance is responsible for overseeing the financial operations and supporting strategy of the organization. This role focuses on ensuring financial strength, regulatory compliance, team leadership, and operational optimization to support organizational growth and objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Strategy and Leadership:

  • Develop finance and accounting team goals aligned with organizational initiatives.
  • Prepare and manage the annual budget, monthly forecasts, and long-term strategic financial plans.
  • Develop cash flow forecasts and maintain a long-term cash positioning framework.
  • Deliver actionable financial insights and recommendations based on analysis of financial data and performance.
  • Provide leadership in managing the capital process, including capital allocation, budgeting for major expenditures, and ensuring efficient use of resources to drive profitability and long-term value creation.

Financial Reporting and Compliance:

  • Serve as the custodian of financial integrity through rigorous accounting practices, enhancing transparency and accountability in all reporting functions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting and compliance with GAAP standards and relevant regulations.
  • Oversee internal and external audit processes, analyze results, and secure approval of audited financial statements.
  • Protect company assets through implementation and monitoring of robust internal controls.

Contracts Administration Oversight:

  • Manage the sales contracting function, including legal and financial reviews of contracts.
  • Ensure proper contract administration and identify opportunities for process improvement in this area.

Incentive Compensation Management:

  • Assist in developing and administering incentive compensation plans to drive high performance in the commercial team.

Operational and Process Improvement:

  • Oversee continuous improvement of accounting and financial workflows to achieve best practices.
  • Supervise the development of reporting systems, including KPIs and ad hoc analyses tied to company goals.
  • Prepare materials and insights for executive leadership, board meetings, and strategic reviews.

Team Leadership and Collaboration:

  • Mentor and develop a high-performing finance team, fostering accountability and innovation.
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as Sales, Marketing, and Product, to align financial metrics with business objectives.

Qualifications:

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Significant financial management experience, including budgeting, forecasting, and multi-faceted strategic planning.
  • In-depth knowledge of finance, accounting, and compliance principles, including GAAP standards.
  • Familiarity with SaaS businesses and subscription revenue models is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of contracting, negotiating, and change management.
  • Ability to produce reliable financial reports, projections, and analyses, including cash flow and variance analysis.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Excellent analytical and organizational capabilities, with strategic decision-making skills.
  • Capacity to manage and optimize financial systems, tools, and workflows.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present financial results and insights to leadership teams.
  • Experience with workflow analysis, process improvement, and operational efficiency.

Licensure/Certifications/Registrations/Permits:

  • Minimum education (or substitute experience) required: A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or related discipline
  • 7+ years of operations and finance experience, preferably in a subscription or technology business environment
  • Knowledge of federal and state financial regulations
  • CPA required
  • Preferred, but not required: Advanced graduate degree – master’s degree in business administration, accounting or finance and strong accounting experience at one of the top five accounting firms

In accordance with applicable law, Hearst is required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this role if hired in Los Angeles, CA. The reasonable estimate, if hired in Los Angeles is $160,000.00 – $185,000.00. Please note this information is specific to those hired in location. If this role is open to candidates outside of location, the salary range would be aligned to that specific location. A final decision on the successful candidate’s starting salary will be based on a number of permissible, non-discriminatory factors, including but not limited to skills and experience, training, certifications, and education.
