Job Description The Specialty Pharmacy Director is responsible for human resource management, financial controls, regulatory requirements, drug distribution, clinical services and performance improvement activities in their area(s) of responsibility. The Director is responsible for development, implementation, supervision, and evaluation of professional services. The Director collaborates with physicians, nursing, and ancillary department key stakeholders to ensure safe and effective pharmacy services. Primary Duties and Responsibilities ? Oversees all clinical, operational, regulatory, financial, quality, and human resources oversight for the Specialty Pharmacy including specialty pharmacy accreditation, serving patients on complex therapies including but not limited to oncology, immunology, neurology, and infectious diseases. ? Responsible for specialty pharmacy operations to ensure safe, timely, efficient services to patients including 24/7 access to pharmacists. ? Responsible for ambulatory clinical pharmacy services across the system including clinical practice standards, outcomes measurement, development of pharmacist competencies, resource management, and patient experience to support disease management and specialty pharmacy services. ? Leads clinical-based pharmacists and the Pharmacotherapy Program to ensure patients and employees receive comprehensive medication management services. ? Leads and mentors specialty pharmacy staff to foster professionalism, teamwork and engagement. ? Responsible for contract pharmacy management ? Responsible for improving network access through collaboration with pharmaceutical industry and managed care contracting to increase the number of patients who can be served by the specialty Pharmacy ? Leads interdepartmental and interdisciplinary initiatives to support Specialty Pharmacy as well as pharmacy and medical center initiatives. Collaborates with physicians, nursing and professional department leadership on process improvement opportunities and actively participates in medical center wide initiatives ? Responsible for Financial Management including operating and capital budgets and the Specialty Pharmacy Profit/Loss statements. Monitors Specialty Pharmacy financial indicators to achieve budget targets including revenue and wage and non-wage expenditures. Monitors and evaluates financial performance, productivity reports and wage and non-wage operating expenses. Identifies opportunities for financial improvement and takes action to optimize financial performance. ? Leads initiatives to enable business growth and expansion through strategic analysis of opportunities, operational optimization, pharmacist integration in clinics, and improved workflows. ? Performance improvement and quality management: Leads continuous quality improvement initiatives and projects to enhance patient safety, service quality, and operational efficiency. ? Regulatory Oversight: Serves a Pharmacist-in-Charge when needed. ? Responsible prior authorization and pharmacy medication patient assistance programs for specialty pharmacy (free drug), enrollment coordination, and financial support (co-pay assist). ? Responsible for planning and execution of complex strategic initiatives with measurable contribution towards the achievement of results for the department or medical center. ? Oversees Residency Program Coordinator for Ambulatory Care Residency Program. ? Develops, implements, and evaluates pharmacy services to optimize patient care in collaboration with inpatient pharmacy leaders and staff. Develops services based on the specific needs of the patients served, such as age of patients, disease state, and specific therapeutic considerations. ? Leads departmental performance improvement activities and is responsible for operational and clinical effectiveness of pharmacy services as demonstrated by quality improvement indicators. ? Leads departmental meetings to communicate information and obtain input on new policies, practices and procedures. Follows up on staff questions and/or concerns. Engages external stakeholders when needed. ? Manages the effective allocation of human resources within areas of responsibility which includes the control of appropriate staffing mix and levels, and management of productivity based on patient care needs. Collaborates with respective managers on hiring, training, competency assessment, corrective action, mentoring, effective supervision, coaching and performance appraisals for pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, residents, interns, students. ? Responsible for compliance with all federal, state, and municipal laws, regulations and ordinances pertaining to safety, accreditation, permitting, licensure, certification, and reimbursement. Ensures staff compliance with medical center policies, procedures and protocols and regulatory requirements. ? Develops and implements initiatives to optimize procedures, practices and efficiencies. ? May perform the duties of a pharmacist to support patient care needs. Qualifications EDUCATION : minimum – post doctoral degree – Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy or related equivalent preferred – master’s degree – Ma sters in Business or Healthcare from an accredited school. Post Graduate Year PGY1 and/or PGY2 residency WORK EXPERIENCE: 8 years minimum- Relevant Pharmacist experience in area of responsibility 5 years minimum – Management experience
