Job Summary

This position is responsible for planning and designing new software, development, analyzing, architect and enhancement of embedded software using RDK-B on Xfinity home and business wireless gateways, within Comcast and syndication partners infrastructure. Active participation as contributor and maintainer for RDK open source community. Collaborate with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements. Coordinates the documentation of all development activity and work with vendors as the need arises for integration. Integrates knowledge of business and functional priorities. Pro-actively lead the software development for sprint releases. Review test specifications with QA for the new features in RDK and identify the test gaps. Owning end to end feature development to pass QA and release management process. Track the performance of the release and features via telemetry dashboards. Acts as a key contributor and in a complex and crucial environment.

Job Description

Core Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements. Conducts analysis to determine integration needs.
  • Involve in architecture and design of new features in Networking stack for RDK
  • Build prototypes and Proof of Concepts and pitching ideas with Product Management and other stakeholders
  • Abstract a business use case and build reusability and/or multi-tenancy into the design through Convention, configuration and customization. Design and code reviews to ensure software reliability and integrity.
  • Identifying the existing bugs and areas of improvement in the current code. Proposing the modifications and writing an efficient code.
  • Mentor junior Software Development Engineers and team members on technical and process aspects.
  • Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products. Reviews literature, patents, and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.
  • Assists in tracking and evaluating performance metrics. Ensures team delivers software on time, to specification, and within budget.
  • Works with Quality Assurance team to determine if applications fit specification and technical requirements.
  • Triage and Debug field issues reported and conduct root cause analysis.
  • Displays expertise in knowledge of engineering methodologies, concepts, and skills and their application in the area of specified engineering specialty.
  • Presents and defends architectural, design, and technical choices to internal audiences.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and provide insight and estimates in our backlog grooming sessions and provide concise, informative daily updates in our morning stand-up meetings.
  • Collaborates with project stakeholders to identify product and technical requirements. Conducts analysis to determine integration needs.
  • Designs new software and web applications, supports applications under development and customizes current applications. Assists in the roll-out of software releases.
  • Oversees the researching, writing and editing of documentation and technical requirements, including software designs, evaluation plans, test results, technical manuals and formal recommendations and reports.
  • Keeps current with technological developments within the industry. Monitors and evaluates competitive applications and products. Reviews literature, patents and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.
  • Assists with technical leadership throughout the design process and assists in guidance with regards to practices, procedures and techniques. Serves as a guide mentor for junior Software Development Engineers.
  • Assists in tracking and evaluating performance metrics. Ensures team delivers software on time, to specification and within budget.
  • Works with Quality Assurance team to determine if applications fit specification and technical requirements. Tests and evaluates systems, subsystems and components.
  • Acts as a technical contact and liaison for outside vendors and/or customers.
  • Presents and defends architectural, design and technical choices to internal and external audiences.
  • Consistent exercise of independent judgment and discretion in matters of significance.
  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Skills:

  • Minimum 8 years of experience in design and development of embedded systems code that require multitasking and multi-threaded systems using IPC mechanisms Using C, C++.
  • System experience working on Linux kernel and networking protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, IPV4, IPV6) and Device Management protocols (WEBPA, SNMP, TR69), Performance analyzing tools (Netperf, iperft, wireshark)
  • Experience with Firewall and security protocols (IPTables, IPSEC/MACSEC, DPI)
  • Working Experience in Gateway connectivity protocols like (DOCSIS,MTA, EPON,GPON, DSL)
  • Experience in WiFi protocols like 802.11n is a big plus
  • Experience in Build tools (Yocto, Makefile), Splunk( Dash boards, metrics and adhoc queries), JIRA (user story and bug tracking), Git/Gerrit (code checkin, reviews)
