Department Summary The UCLA Office of Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) is a highly-specialized, interdisciplinary team of environmental, safety, and emergency preparedness & response professionals providing risk, safety, and emergency response services to the campus community at UCLA. We are currently seeking an experienced Environmental Compliance Specialist. Candidates already certified as to practice as Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) in California are required. Position Summary Under general supervision of the Industrial Hygiene & Environmental Programs Manager at the UCLA Office of Environment, Health & Safety, the employee will be responsible for various programmatic elements in environmental health programs across the UCLA organization, including the Food Safety, Recreational Waters, Drinking Water, Vector Control and Infection Control programs. Duties are a part of environmental hazard reduction programs designed to maintain campus safety. Specific duties include conducting food facility, temporary event, and swimming pool inspections to ensure compliance with applicable state codes and regulations, coordinate and advise student and university organizations on events at which food is distributed to the university community, monitor and approve chlorination of campus waterlines, respond to complaints regarding environmental issues, collaborate with the management of the campus Integrated Pest Management Program as it pertains to health concerns and vector control issues, develop content for training and outreach materials for the campus, streamline environmental health work processes by creating, updating, and implementing various programmatic components such as inspection forms, standard operating procedures, and communication with campus stakeholders, assist in the review and approval of construction plans for renovation or new construction of food facilities and pools/spas, and assist in special projects as assigned by the Industrial Hygiene & Environmental Programs Manager and the Director of Operations. The incumbent will also serve as a member of the UCLA Hazardous Materials Response Team. Targe salary range for this position is between $88,100 and $109,100 per year. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications Able to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, administrators, coworkers, regulatory agencies, administrative personnel, managers, and academic personnel. (Required) Thorough knowledge of Environmental Health principles, practices, techniques and trends in the field of public health. (Required) Skill in interacting with persons of various educational, social, and cultural backgrounds. (Required) Skills in performing a variety of environmental health duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature. (Required) Skill in writing concise, logical, grammatically correct analytical reports to explain the results of environmental health studies. (Required) Skill in working independently and following through on assignments. (Required) Ability to receive direction and constructive feedback from supervision, and make applicable changes. (Required) Strong written and verbal skills to effectively communicate with coworkers, supervisory staff, and stakeholders at all management levels. (Required) Skill in setting priorities and meet set work goals, which accurately reflect the relative importance of the job responsibilities. (Required) Ability to wear personal protective equipment including full face respirator and respond to emergencies after normal University business hours. (Required) Demonstrated skills in the use of computers using Windows-based software, general working knowledge of spreadsheet software and database entry, and working knowledge of the internet. (Required) Ability to comprehend architectural drawing and blueprints, including construction software, e.g., Bluebeam. (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor’s Degree BA/BS in Environmental Health, Environmental Sciences or closely related field or an equivalent contribution of education and relevant experience.
