Department Summary Founded in 1882, UCLA Lab School is a laboratory school serving 450 students ages 4 to 12 (PreK-6) in a diverse community. Position Summary The Lead Teacher of the Extended Day Program (EDP) of UCLA Lab School within the Graduate School of Education & Information Studies (GSE&IS) is responsible for the development and implementation of the curriculum for children enrolled in the program. Primary responsibilities include curriculum implementation, supervision of children and teacher assistants, implement a safe and healthy learning environment, establish parental interactions, and plan daily activities. The position also requires involvement in a research school environment. There are daily interactions with various school personnel to promote the success of the children enrolled in the program. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Skill in writing grammatically correct lesson plans and curriculum units for children 4 to 12 years of age (Required) 2. Skill to clearly read aloud documents written in standard English in individual or small group settings using text such as Early Childhood curriculum and children’s books. (Required) 3. Ability to work and speak to people of various social, cultural, economic, and educational background to welcome and establish good working relationships with staff, parents, and children. (Required) 4. Ability to apply Early Childhood theory and approaches to relevant classroom teaching for children, 4 to 12 year old. (Required) 5. Working knowledge of parent conferencing to develop collaborative and cooperative relationships, discuss child’s progress and respond to questions. (Required) 6. Ability to create and maintain inventory of curriculum materials and equipment for classroom use. (Required) 7. CPR and first aid certification from American Red Cross or other accredited organization. (Required) 8. Ability to effectively supervise and train classroom assistants and volunteers, including task assignment. (Required) 9. Working experience as a teacher in a school-age program. Skill in working with other school personnel and outside researchers. (Required) 10. Organizational skills to establish daily routines for children at set times for reoccurring activities and events. (Required) 11. Working knowledge of environmental health and safety policy/procedure sufficient to identify, remedy, or bring to the supervisor’s attention issues that may affect children’s physical or psychological health (Required) 12. Ability to create and maintain organizational procedures, including attendance, supply and material inventories, documentation of parent conferences, behavior logs, etc. (Required) Special Conditions for Employment Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
