Faculty Service Chief of Hematopathology University of California Los Angeles Requisition Number: JPF09206 The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at UCLA is searching for an outstanding MD or M.D., Ph.D. to serve as Section Chief of Hematopathology. AP or AP/CP board certification (or the equivalent) as well as hematopathology board certification is essential. The appointment would be at the level of Associate or Full Professor, depending on the candidate’s experience. Clinical expertise in hematopathology including flow cytometry and molecular hematopathology is essential, and a successful record of productive research collaborations or independent research activities is strongly preferred. The candidate will be responsible for leading the Section of Hematopathology as well as for sharing the clinical workload of the Section. The hematopathology section is a busy clinical service with an annual case volume of about 11,000 (including surgical specimens, consult cases, flow cytometry evaluations, and bone marrow biopsies), and an additional 3000 molecular hematopathology cases. The Section supports a group of very busy, subspecialized, Hematologists/Oncologists, including many highly active academicians. This clinical team currently runs over 50 clinical trials at UCLA related to hematologic diseases, and the Section of Hematopathology provides clinical and academic support to these clinical trials and other basic, translational and clinical research studies. The candidate will also share responsibility for training residents and fellows (currently two hemepathology fellows a year), and will have opportunities to teach medical students in the David Geffen School of Medicine. Candidates will be expected to contribute creatively to research and scholarly projects; UCLA offers a highly collaborative research environment that promotes interactions among faculty in various department across the School of Medicine as well as other parts of campus.
