As a Generalist Field Application Engineer (FAE) at Avnet, you will play a critical role in bridging the gap between our technical product offerings and our customers’ needs. You will be responsible for providing technical support, guidance, and solutions to our clients, ensuring they achieve the best performance and integration of our semiconductor products into their designs. Additionally, you’ll interface directly with our suppliers, building strong relationships, staying up-to-date on their product offerings, and leveraging their expertise to benefit our clients. This role requires a broad knowledge base, as you will work across multiple product lines and applications.

 
Principal Responsibilities: 

  • Actively creates and executes a plan to enter and grow technical sales in each market by introducing new products and technologies to existing and potential customers. Develops expertise to identify, understand, and evaluate different solutions before selecting components, and contributes meaningfully to design reviews with suppliers and customers.
  • Good understanding of customer needs relative to product(s), technology, direction, competition, design process and design cycle. 
  • With the support of Account Managers, identify and develop relationships with all key technical decision makers and influencers in each account.
  • Identify design needs from the system level to individual components, working with design, production, and engineering teams to create and implement technical strategies that address customer design challenges.
  • Market supported lines to sales team by driving adoption of advocated solutions, with supplier partners, that meet customer needs and lead to increased design activity, design wins and sales growth. 
  • Proactively provides general application and product level sales training, proactively align with sales team in securing business. Communicate account calls with suppliers, account managers and/or inside sales. 
  • Manages communication and in-depth consultation with customers, sales and vendors.
  • A thorough understanding of product lifecycles and the ability to design a full solution based on the customers expectation of product performance, lifecycles and total costs. 
  • Attend internal and external technical training to complete and maintain certification as necessary. 
  • Other duties as assigned. 

 
Job Level Specifications: 

  • Technical Support: Provide in-depth technical support to customers on a wide range of semiconductor products, including microcontrollers, analog devices, power management ICs, sensors, and more.
  • Customer Engagement: Work closely with customers to understand their design requirements and challenges, and recommend suitable products and solutions that meet their needs. Has direct contact with clients and decision makers; participates in team sales for major accounts.
  • Design Assistance: Assist customers with schematic design, PCB layout, and system integration to ensure optimal performance of our products in their applications.
  • Training and Education: Conduct technical training sessions for customers, sales teams, and partners to enhance their understanding of our product portfolio and its applications.
  • Product Demonstrations: Develop and present product demonstrations, showcasing the features and benefits of our semiconductor solutions.
  • Market Feedback: Gather and communicate customer feedback and market trends to our internal product management and engineering teams to influence product development and roadmaps.
  • Pre- and Post-Sales Support: Collaborate with sales teams during the pre-sales process to identify opportunities and provide technical presentations. Offer post-sales support to ensure customer satisfaction and success.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and maintain technical documentation, application notes, and reports to support customer projects and internal knowledge sharing.

 
Work Experience: 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related field.  
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in a technical role, preferably in field application engineering, technical support, or design engineering within the semiconductor industry. 
  • Technical Skills: Broad knowledge of semiconductor products and applications. Experience with schematic design, PCB layout, and system-level integration. 
  • Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. 
  • Customer-Focused: Excellent interpersonal skills and a customer-centric approach to problem-solving. 
  • Problem-Solving: Demonstrated ability to analyze customer issues and develop innovative solutions. 
  • Travel: Willingness to travel to customer sites and industry events as needed (approximately 20-40% travel).
