(No full-time faculty can work more than a 1.67 assignment during the Fall and Spring semesters1. Adjunct faculty may not exceed 0.67 total assignments in a given semester.) DESCRIPTION West Los Angeles College (WLAC) is seeking applicants for the Director of the LVN Program. The LVN Director is an Instructor Special Assignment (ISA) position for 14 to 23.45 hours per week, (0.40 – 0.67 FTE) . This is a C-Basis position. A minimum of 2 days per week are expected to be on the WLAC campus with a set schedule, with some weekend and night duties. The LVN Program Director is responsible for leading and managing the Licensed Vocational Nursing program. This includes curriculum development, faculty oversight, clinical partnerships, and regulatory compliance. The Program Director ensures that the program meets state and accreditation standards, fosters a dynamic learning environment, and supports student success. This role is integral in developing innovative educational experiences, supporting faculty and students, and engaging with the local healthcare community. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master’s degree in Nursing AND : A current California RN License. You must submit a copy of faculty applicant’s certificate or transcript from an approved school verifying successful completion of the following courses: 1) Administration ; 2) Teaching ; and 3) Curriculum Development . If teaching content is unclear from the certificate or transcript, a copy of the course description from the school’s catalog is requested. Note: A Director of Staff Development (DSD) course, and a course taken from a continuing education institution that is not approved by BVNPT does not constitute proof of a teaching course. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS A strong background in medical-surgical nursing is required. Teaching Experience. Include teaching experience over the last six years in an accredited/approved vocational/practical nursing program, psychiatric technician program or registered nursing program ONLY . DO NOT include CNA, DSD, or hospital-based educator. Expertise in vocational nursing education standards, compliance, and best practices. Strong leadership and team management skills with experience in faculty supervision and curriculum oversight. Excellent communication skills, with an emphasis on fostering collaboration and professional relationships. Ability to use data for decision-making and demonstrate an outcomes-focused approach to education. Principle of Teaching Adult Learner completed course. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Program Management and Compliance Ensure compliance with all regulations and standards set by the Board of Vocational Nursing and Psychiatric Technicians (BVNPT) and other accrediting bodies. Oversee program accreditation, including student outcomes and licensure pass rates. Maintain updated knowledge of state and federal requirements related to vocational nursing education. Faculty Recruitment and Supervision Hire, train, and mentor qualified faculty members to deliver high-quality instruction in nursing theory and clinical practice. Evaluate faculty performance and support their professional development, ensuring they stay current with nursing practices and adult education methods. Work closely with adjunct instructors to ensure a cohesive learning environment across all program components. Curriculum Development and Assessment Lead curriculum development and maintain a curriculum that aligns with best practices and BVNPT standards, with a particular focus on medical-surgical nursing and other core areas. Develop assessment tools for evaluating program effectiveness, student learning outcomes, and faculty performance. Integrate varied teaching modalities, including interactive and practical learning experiences, to support student engagement. Student Support and Success Serve as an academic advisor for students, providing guidance from enrollment through program completion. Address student issues related to academic performance, clinical experience, and program progression. Collaborate with student services to offer additional resources, such as tutoring and career counseling. Clinical Partnership Coordination Establish partnerships with healthcare facilities to secure clinical placements that meet program standards and provide comprehensive learning experiences. Ensure students are adequately prepared for clinical settings and that all clinical experiences meet BVNPT requirements. Liaise with clinical partners to monitor student progress and compliance with facility policies. Budgeting and Resource Management Develop and manage the program budget, allocating resources to support faculty, technology, and instructional materials. Seek external funding opportunities, such as grants, to enhance program offerings and student resources. Ensure that facilities and equipment support effective teaching and learning. Leadership and Strategic Planning Participate in college-wide initiatives, representing the LVN program in planning and decision-making processes. Lead program improvement initiatives, keeping pace with trends in healthcare and vocational nursing education. Advocate for program needs within the institution and among community stakeholders to support a positive program reputation. COMPENSATION This is a C-basis position, with assignments in Fall and Spring, and additional assignments in Winter and/or Summer as additional Z-Basis assignments with a maximum 0.67 FTE limited faculty ISA position. This position is renewable annually, based on assignment restrictions, evaluation of outcomes and performance, and availability of funds. Current regular and contract faculty on reassigned time will continue at their current salary rate. If the recommended hire is not currently assigned as a regular or contract faculty member and is assigned as an adjunct, salary placement will be in accordance with the adjunct salary schedule. The selected candidate may be eligible for a doctorate differential contingent with educational preparation (i.e., possession of a doctorate degree).
