Position Summary:
The Human Resource Generalist will support a wide range of HR functions and work closely with the Director of HR to promote a supportive, inclusive, and compliant workplace. This role will touch all key areas of human resources—from onboarding and performance management to employee relations and legal compliance—while maintaining a strong commitment to the organization’s mission and values.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the development, implementation, and communication of HR policies, procedures, and the employee handbook.
- Provide guidance to leadership and managers on employee relations, workplace culture, and HR best practices.
- Facilitate training programs, employee development initiatives, and performance management strategies.
- Manage new hire onboarding and orientation to ensure a positive and mission-aligned introduction to the organization.
- Build and maintain effective partnerships with temporary staffing agencies; negotiate rates, ensure staffing needs are met, and monitor fill rates.
- Support employee lifecycle processes including recruitment, terminations, incident investigations, grievance resolution, and disciplinary actions.
- Ensure timely and accurate handling of Worker’s Compensation cases from start to closure, including documentation and communication.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and act as a trusted resource for staff and management alike.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience in Human Resources, with a broad understanding of core HR functions.
- Deep knowledge of employment laws, labor regulations, and best practices in employee relations.
- Strong ethics, integrity, and a commitment to confidentiality.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to relate to individuals across all levels of an organization.
- High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to manage difficult situations with empathy, professionalism, and sound judgment.
- Comfortable supporting a team that works with people in crisis or vulnerable situations.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in HR or related field and 3–5 years of relevant HR experience, or
Master’s degree in HR with 2+ years’ experience, or 7+ years of equivalent HR experience in the field.
- PHR certification is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access) and general HRIS tools.
- Experience working in a nonprofit or human services setting is a plus.
