Position Summary Under the direct supervision of the Director of Strategic Communication in the department of External Affairs, the Internal and Executive Communications Specialist will write and disseminate the communications for the Dean’s Office and senior leadership at UCLA Extension. The position will work closely with leadership to craft speeches, presentations, talking points, memos and announcements on behalf of/for senior leadership. They will also work to create media opportunities by pitching leadership as experts and drafting Op-eds for placement in local and national media. Additionally, the position will work with the Center for Advisement and Student Success, Academic Affairs and the registrar to craft messages to internal audiences such as students, instructors and staff. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications Minimum of 3 years 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience in public relations, communications, or news writing; reporting and writing news features and press releases and pitching stories to media. (Required) Possess strong writing, editing, verbal, and interpersonal skills, along with political acumen, a keen eye for compelling stories, and the ability to align topics with audience interests and key location messages. (Required) Working knowledge of the concepts and principles of news, media communications and media relations. (Required) Highly collaborative style with experience developing and implementing communications strategies successfully. (Required) Strong ability in cultivating lasting relationships with colleagues and media contacts. (Required) Ability to manage time and meet multiple deadlines as it relates to editorial calendars and curating newsletters. (Required) Skill to maintain confidentiality (Required) Strong research and analytical skills. (Required) Occasional evening and weekend hours may be required for news and event coverage. (Required) Proven experience in marketing copywriting, speech writing, social media, magazine writing, photography, video editing, or related fields, combined with demonstrated expertise in utilizing electronic communication tools effectively in professional settings. (Required) Experience in higher education organizations/industry. (Preferred) Strong understanding of UCLA Extension, including its key achievements, mission, vision, strategic goals, objectives, programs, and infrastructure. (Preferred) Thorough skills in understanding and effectively utilizing all news / media mediums including broadcast news, the internet, social media and other emerging technologies. (Preferred) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, English, marketing, or a related field, or have an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
