This position is not remote. On-site presence will be required on at least a hybrid basis per week, depending on departmental and organizational needs. Department Summary Excelling in quality, innovation, and impact, UCLA Extension (UNEX) is one of the top providers of continuing and professional education in the United States, offering programs and classes to more than 50,000 students per year through approximately 4,500 classes and certificate programs to meet the professional development, continuing education, and personal enrichment needs of the full spectrum of traditional, nontraditional, domestic, international, professional, and continuing education students throughout and beyond Los Angeles. Position Summary Under the direct supervision of the Director of International Student Services and in close collaboration with the Assistant Dean of International Programs, the International Student Advisor serves as a key member of the advising team supporting over 1,300 applicants and 2,300 non-immigrant international students enrolled in UCLA Extension’s certificate, study abroad, and short-term programs. Advisors in the Office of International Student Services (ISS) play a proactive role in guiding students through every stage of their academic journeyfrom initial visa application to program completionoffering comprehensive immigration advising and support services. Their work fosters meaningful connections between students and the UCLA community, the city of Los Angeles, and the broader experience of studying in a dynamic, global destination. International Student Advisors are authorized by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to serve as Designated School Officials (DSOs), responsible for issuing the Certificate of Eligibility for Nonimmigrant Student Status (Form I-20) to prospective students and their dependents seeking F-1, F-2, M-1, or M-2 visas. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications 2 – 3 years Minimum of progressive professional experience in international student admissions in a college/academic environment (Required) Demonstrates strong work ethic, ownership of mistakes, receptiveness to feedback, and adaptability to organizational change. (Required) Applies independent judgment and creative approaches to resolve complex issues effectively. (Required) Meets deadlines with precision in a fast-paced, high-volume environment; adheres to work schedules reliably. (Required) Communicates clearly and respectfully with diverse stakeholders including students, staff, faculty, and the public. (Required) Maintains strict adherence to FERPA, HIPAA, and handles sensitive information with discretion and integrity. (Required) Demonstrates mastery of DHS regulations (e.g., 8 CFR 214.1, 214.2) and knowledge of B, J, H, and L visa categories. (Required) Skilled in service platforms (e.g., SRM, SIS, live chat), Contact Center tools, and Microsoft/Adobe applications. (Required) Successfully plans and executes student events and orientations with attention to detail and student engagement. (Required) U.S. citizenship or lawful permanent residency required for SEVIS access per DHS regulations. (Required) Embeds UCLA Extension?s mission and values in daily work, prioritizing student success and inclusive advising. (Required) Understands UCLA Extension?s academic rules, certificate programs, and initiatives; familiarity with ALC preferred.
