LECTURER, GENERAL EDUCATION UCLA CLUSTER PROGRAM: Cluster 80B and CW: Frontiers in Human Aging University of California Los Angeles Requisition Number: JPF10547 The UCLA Undergraduate Education Initiatives unit seeks a lecturer for Winter and Spring Quarter (AY 2025-26) to teach a seminar as part of the General Education UCLA Cluster Program. This position includes team-teaching the lectures for Cluster 80: Frontiers in Human Aging, in the Winter and developing and leading a seminar for freshman students from various backgrounds in the Spring. The Cluster examines the aging process from vantage points of multiple disciplines, including biology, psychology, sociology, ethics, and public policy. Students will study the phenomena of biomedical and biological aging and its psychological, social, and ethical implications. This Cluster incorporates hands-on education through ‘Elder Interviews’ and Community Engagement in the Los Angeles community. We are specifically seeking a scholar who can provide perspectives on the environmental impact on biological aging and sustainable solutions for public health. This position will entail working as part of the teaching team on the generation of writing assignments, exam questions, and grading of student submissions UCLA has a diverse student population in one of the more diverse cities in the nation; we particularly seek candidates who have taught similarly diverse students in a major research university. Required Qualifications: An earned doctorate from an accredited university College-level teaching experience Knowledge and training/background in civil & environmental engineering and biological sciences Experience in teaching writing and composition Preferred Qualifications: At least three years of college-level teaching experience, especially to a General Education population in large courses Excellent verbal and written communication skills Must be capable of delivering high-quality instruction to a diverse student body Requirements: Cover letter Curriculum vitae Statement of teaching Proposed syllabus draft for spring seminar Names and contact information of two references The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
