Department Summary Housed under the newly developed University Consortium of Schools (previously PreK-12), the UCLA Lab School is an innovative school for children ages 4-12 and a laboratory for teachers and researchers in the School of Education & Information Studies (SE&IS) at UCLA. The Business Office manages and supports an annual budget of $11 million and manages over 100+ academic and careers employees, 30+ student workers, independent contractors, and volunteers. Position Summary Under the direction and supervision of a school administrator, provide support for a variety of public and technical services, including but not limited to, shelving; bibliographic checking, order, receive and process of books and other library materials using OCLC, an online database that provides bibliographic information, and Voyager, UCLA’s integrated library management system; notice and bill for past due library materials using applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and FileMaker Pro; withdraw discarded, damaged or lost library materials; order and maintain supplies; reference and readers advisory services including helping patrons understand Library of Congress subject headings and the Dewey Decimal Classification System to locate materials through the online catalog and other online databases. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships withlibrary staff and library patrons including teachers, parents, and students. (Required) Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing to provideinformation or explain procedures, policies, etc. to others. (Required) Ability to deal in a flexible manner with a changing workflow. (Required) Ability to work effectively with frequent interruptions. (Required) Ability to process a large volume of work with a high degree of accuracy. (Required) Knowledge of library operations, including functions involved in acquisitionsand processing of library materials. (Required) Knowledge of the application of automation and microcomputers to libraryoperations, including familiarity with a national database such as OCLC anddownloading or exporting of bibliographic records. (Preferred) Ability to work with microcomputers and programs including MicrosoftWord, Excel, and FileMaker Pro. (Required) Working knowledge of MARC (Machine Readable Cataloging) bibliographicformat and coding convention. (Preferred) Knowledge of Dewey Decimal System and Library of Congress subjectheadings to help library patrons locate materials. (Required) Knowledge of UCLA’s online public catalog to help library patrons locatematerials. (Preferred) Skill in searching online databases to help library patrons find informationand library materials.
