Your Role on the Team Position Summary: Incumbent is responsible for managing the coordination of accurate and compliant Outpatient Specialty Area coding (Radiation Oncology & Interventional Radiology/Cardiovascular) of pertinent medical information to include diagnoses and procedures performed with adherence to established coding guidelines of ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS and HCC’s, governmental and third-party payers guidelines. Incumbent oversees and maintains overall responsibility for an assigned group of employees in the Outpatient Specialty Coding Unit, assists in determining strategic priorities and planning for unit operations. The incumbent uses technical coding subject matter expert (SME) skills to serve as a resource for the organization to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and official coding guidelines. Is knowledgeable of the Outpatient Perspective Payment System, and local and national coverage determination guidelines as well as E&M level assignment. Participates in provider education when documentation opportunities for improvement are identified. Assist with claims denial review and appeals when appropriate. Participates in the audit projects and provides education to the coding team based on the audit findings. Required Qualifications: Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CM and CPT coding, Prospective Payment Systems, and case mix optimization Must possess the skill, knowledge and ability essential to the successful performance of assigned duties Must demonstrate customer service skills appropriate to the job Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English Demonstrated coding management experience Continuing membership with the AHIMA CCS or CPC Coding Credential Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload Ability to compile, interpret and evaluate statistical and medical data Preferred Qualifications: Training in performance improvement methodologies, preferably Lean or Six Sigma Strong computer skills to include working knowledge of MS Office, Access, Excel, Word and Power Point RHIA, CCS-P, CPC-H, CDIP, or ACDIS certification Knowledge of University and medical center organizations, policies, procedures and forms Demonstrated coding management experience in an academic medical center Certification as an ICD-10 trainer through AHIMA BS or MS degree in HIM Conditions of Employment: The University of California, Irvine (UCI) seeks to provide a safe and healthy environment for the entire UCI community.
