What You be doing in this Role:

The Manager, Patient Access is responsible for the planning, organizing, directing and controlling of the daily operations of assigned areas, in order to meet the needs of all customers and support the Medical Center’s philosophies. The Manager, Patient Access assumes fiscal responsibility through preparation of unit budgets, serves as a liaison with medical staff and other personnel, promotes maximum growth and development of each employee, participates in strategic planning, both long and short term and assures patient advocacy. The Manager, Patient Access guides staff in meeting customers’ needs consistent with the Medical Center’s philosophy, mission, vision and strategic plan. The role maintains competency skills including the ability to interact with customers with diverse cultural backgrounds. The Manager, Patient Access identifies safety concerns/ performs all job duties with sensitivity and attention to the age development of the patient population(s) served. Assigned responsibility includes insurance verification, financial case management, inhouse account management and preregistration. Primary duties include:

  • Assures that their area of responsibility maintains a customer focus by serving as a role model with consistent focus on customer relations, providing feedback regarding positive and negative customer comments and participating in customer satisfaction initiatives.
  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state and municipal laws, regulations and ordinances for assigned area. Maintains positive work climate, ensues appropriate staff education. Promotes environment that fosters self-directed staff, assists employees to develop and contribute to the organization and applies human resources policies fairly and consistently.
  • Promotes an organizational focus by establishing goals consistent with organizational goals, facilitating collaboration and coordination for interdepartmental problem-solving and supporting new concepts that enhance the functioning of area operations.
  • Functions as a positive, creative and effective leader, actively participating in performance improvement activities and consulting in implementation of education programs.
  • Ensures ongoing staff compliance of staffing schedules to ensure an appropriate coverage for ongoing daily operations.

  • Interfaces w/ IPA???s, Medical Groups and other Review Organizations in resolving authorization and eligibility issues.
  • Collaborates with managers and clinical/support services managers in cross-functional process improvement, collaborative teamwork, open communication and problem solving to ensure the effective coordination and integration of services between units.
  • Maintains constructive collegial relations with managers, division, and medical staff.
  • Maintains comprehensive knowledge of Medicare, Medical, commercial and managed care payors with specific knowledge of CSMC payor contracts.
  • Has knowledge of electronic, web based, and vendor sponsored verification and eligibility systems?

Qualifications

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in admissions management required.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a large complex medical center or multi-hospital system required.??
