Job Summary:

The Medical Education Scholarship Program Director will serve as a senior medical education researcher in the Office of Research and Scholarship (ORS) at the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine. The Program Director will be responsible for coordinating the schools research initiatives in medical education. The Program Director will collaborate in the development of strategic priorities in medical education scholarship, with a special emphasis on measuring outcomes of KPSOM curricular innovations as well as the overall curriculum. The Program Director will have primary responsibility for facilitating the production of high-priority academic products in collaboration with faculty leading these efforts. The Program Director is expected to develop their own program of academic work as well as serve as a resource and mentor for faculty and students who are interested in pursuing research and scholarship related to medical education. They will also be expected to develop and participate in external collaborations with other medical schools and organizations. Candidates with appropriate qualifications may also be considered for appointment to the faculty.

Essential Responsibilities:

Develop and implement a strategic vision for medical education research, aligning with the schools goals and objectives.

Facilitate, design, and oversee high priority studies of student outcomes in collaboration with faculty and staff, including analysis of complex quantitative and qualitative data.

Disseminate research through national presentations and manuscript publications.

Stay up to date on latest trends, advances or best practices in medical education research and help incorporate them into the schools research initiatives.

Apply for applicable external grants and contracts to support educational research activities.

Foster collaborations with internal and external organizations, such as medical schools, educational institutions, and healthcare organizations, to promote research partnerships.

Provide instruction and guidance to students, faculty, and potentially residents and fellows in educational research and scholarship. This includes mentoring individuals in various aspects such as literature review, study design, research design, mixed methods data quantitative and qualitative data analysis, interpretation of findings, and effective dissemination of research results.

Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and impact of research initiatives and make recommendations for improvements or changes as needed.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

Minimum of Four (4) years of experience in health sciences education with direct involvement in educational research, scholarship of teaching and learning, and/or program evaluation.

Minimum of Two (2) years of experience in leading proposal writing for externally funded grants in support of a medical education research program.

Education

A doctoral degree (Ph.D., Ed.D, or equivalent) in relevant fields such as medical education, health sciences education, or a related discipline.

License, Certification, Registration

N/A

Additional Requirements:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to effectively present research findings to diverse audiences.

Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

A track record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and grant-funded educational scholarship.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in mentoring doctoral students (including health professions students) and/or faculty in educational research and scholarship)

Knowledge of competency-based education, learner assessment, and curriculum design and evaluation

Leadership skills, including visioning, strategic planning, and performance appraisal

Design and delivery of programs of faculty development

This role pays an estimated base salary of $148800 – $192500 / year plus incentive pay, robust benefits and other support for those who are eligible.
