General Position Summary:

Install mobile, fixed radio and wireless communications equipment in a variety of vehicles according to manufacturer and company guidelines. Position encounters recurring work situations of moderate complexity that occasionally vary from the norm. Position operates from established and well-known procedures and receives moderate work supervision.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

Perform installations of fixed & wireless communications equipment by assembling and bolting equipment into vehicles by using guidelines and at the direction of the Lead or Service manager.

Installations may be at the shop location or at a customers site.

Inventory/assemble parts and stage the installation prior to install to ensure correct parts available.

Assist with optimization of equipment following installation to ensure it functions properly.

Complete job tickets and time sheets to record installation work.

Maintain safe, clean and orderly tools and work area

Maintain positive customer relations and communication additional information when needed.

May occasionally be requested to complete additional assignments.

Must be able to travel, this may be local, daily travel or overnight travel.

Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education:

  • Knowledge of basic electrical wiring is ideal but will train.
  • Basic skill using hand tools and 12V.
  • Mechanical ability to operate basic handtools and power tools, and use basic electronic equipment (voltmeter, wattmeter, and soldering iron). Knowledge of installation procedures for alarms, wigwags, sirens, light bars, relays, and disguised radio installs is highly desired.
  • Good oral communication skills.
  • Experience installing mobile and fixed communications equipment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience is highly desired, but not mandatory.
  • Ability to maneuver in small, tight locations such as under dashboards, cabs of vehicles, under vehicles when necessary.
  • High School diploma is required, any additional education or trade school training of electrical, wiring, automotive is preferred.
