What you will be doing in this role: Under general direction of the Tumor Registry Manager, develops the Tumor Registry education and apprenticeship program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (CSMC) and is responsible for quality monitoring and reporting of abstracted data. The Oncology Data Trainer will create a curriculum for the apprenticeship program including case finding, follow-up, and abstraction and provide instruction and mentoring to the employees and/or apprentices of the Cancer Registry Program. This will include assistance with education, abstracting of cancer related data, and specific knowledge of Cancer Registry standards, regulations, and process/workflows, required of an Oncological Data Specialist (ODS). This guidance is necessary to develop the Oncological Data Specialist credential holders with the ability to perform all elements of an ODS in the Tumor Registry. Oncology Data Trainer will perform the functions of quality monitoring for each area of cancer registry activity including apprentices. In this role, you will: Develop curriculum for apprentices participating in the Tumor Registry education program Have the knowledge and ability to abstract cancer related data according to established policies and procedures including summarizing patient?s records, demographic data, diagnostic procedures, date of diagnoses, histological diagnoses and treatment Teach and demonstrate concepts and principles associated with abstracting and coding of all reportable malignant diseases applying American Join Committee on Cancer (AJCC) Cancer Staging Manual, the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) Extent of Disease Manual, Standards for Oncology Registry Entry (STORE), SEER Staging Guide, ICD-03 Coding Manual, Site Specific Data Items manual, and Solid Tumor Rules(STR). Use CNext software to collect statistical data from patient medical records and monitor quality of the cancer registry data Provide instruction and mentoring to apprentices of the Tumor Registry program to include Cancer Registry standards and regulations Monitor quality of apprentices? deliverables and provide feedback as appropriate for further development of the apprentice Develop, maintain, and provide statistics and reports of apprentices? progress to apprentice and Tumor Registry Leadership Perform quality monitoring for each area of cancer registry activity, including quarterly reviews for each Oncology Data Coordinator (ODC) and NCDB data items Perform reporting required for Cancer Committee or Cancer Quality Committee Provide all/any updates to Tumor Registry staff specific to regulatory standards as required. Qualifications Requirements: A minimum of 4 years of experience as a Certified Tumor Registrar required. An associate degree in health information of another relevant major or a medical degree required. Oncology Data Specialist Certification required upon hire. Why work here?
