Department Summary Serve as the Operations Manager for UCLA Early Care and Education (ECE), providing overall strategic leadership and oversight for facilities management for a unit that operates three child care centers (Fernald, Krieger and University Village) serving 340 families and employs approximately 165 full- and part-time employees. The Operations Manager provides comprehensive oversight and leadership in close collaboration with the infrastructure team – the executive director, lead directors, and directors – to maintain program quality and ensure compliance with UCLA policy, Title 22 state licensing regulations, Title 5 and National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) accreditation standards. Responsibilities include oversight of logistical operations to provide a safe workplace for all administrative and teaching staff, children, and families located across three child care centers. Coordinate with directors to ensure health and safety of staff and children, and oversight of emergency preparedness. Independently address departmental space needs and work with others to achieve the most efficient use of space. Liaise regularly with Facilities Management and (for the UV site) Housing and Hospitality Services to arrange for repairs and upgrades to all centers; maintain records of upgrades, repairs, and project costs. Liaise regularly with Information Technology to ensure that departmental needs are met and compliance with UCLA policies and procedures maintained. Oversee emergency preparedness strategies, create a system for fluid communication and protocols, update procedure manuals, and schedule employee training. Coordinate departmental events and staff trainings with the Executive Director. Qualifications 3-5 years of equivalent experience / training (Required) Working knowledge of and experience in a child care center environment at a University or equivalent institution. Experience coordinating departmental needs for information technology and facilities and emergency management within the context of a larger institution (Required) Thorough knowledge in the areas of building space planning, codes, capacity, security, fire safety, organization and departmental principles and procedures involved in risk assessment and evaluating risks as to likelihood and consequences. (Required) Ability to conduct on-site inspections of units for quality control and maintenance needs. These inspections involve walking, standing, climbing, stooping and crouching. (Required) Demonstrate skill in analyzing and resolving problems that require both independent thought and action and resourcefulness in consulting others as appropriate (Required) Thorough and effective skills to multi-task and prioritize daily activities effectively (Required) Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively and tactfully with diverse department/University personnel at various levels and with the public, including staff and families, in all matters pertaining to the operation of the units (Required) Communication and writing skills to obtain or convey clear, concise and grammatically correct information (Required) Ability to write concise, logical and grammatically correct documents sufficient to prepare schedules, plans, procedural and training manuals and evaluations. (Required) Skill in working as part of a team and collaborating effectively with colleagues (Required) Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite to produce reader-friendly reports, documents and presentations (Required) Physical ability to lift and carry children and objects up to 40 pounds when necessary (frequent lifting) (Required) Certified in pediatric CPR and first aid (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor’s Degree in related area (Preferred) Special Conditions for Employment Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation. The employee must sign the “Statement Acknowledging Requirement to Report Child Abuse”. This position may require work outside the typical work schedule. This includes early morning hours, evenings and weekends.
