Position Summary

Under direction of the Paint Manager, apply coats of latex paint, varnish, stain, enamel, and lacquer to decorate and protect interior and/or exterior surfaces, including building trim and fixtures. Repair and patch holes and cracks, and prepare surfaces for paint and/or other coatings. Select and mix paint, and select, assemble, and clean related equipment. Supervise seasonal contracted paint crews of up to twenty-four employees. Other duties as assigned. This is a Limited Appointment position.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years Painting experience working with materials, equipment, methods, and tools of the paint trade. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to independently perform all aspects of skilled paint work. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of surface toleration of wood, metal, plastic, etc., for paint, wood stain, varnish, and special coatings. (Required)
  • Skill in performing basic arithmetic calculations sufficient to calculate work areas and materials, and to estimate costs. (Required)
  • Ability to inspect, clean, lubricate, and/or adjust paint-related equipment. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of standard safety practices as they relate to the paint trade. (Required)
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively and diplomatically with staff, management, residents, guests, and outside vendors. (Required)
  • Ability to work independently and follow through on assignments with minimal supervision. Ability to follow written and oral instructions and/or directions. (Required)
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak English. Ability to read and comprehend technical instructions related to the paint trade. (Required)
  • Knowledge of University staff personnel policies and procedures. (Preferred)
  • Ability to maintain good attendance. Ability to arrive to work reliably and on time. (Required)
  • Ability to initiate and maintain cooperative relationships with co-workers, managers and supervisors, customers/clients, and members of the public. Ability to work harmoniously and cooperatively as a team player. (Required)
  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Valid Lead-based paint removal certification. (Required)

  • Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
  • Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment.
  • Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired.
