Part-Time Instructors for Microbiology These positions are filled on an as-needed basis, and recruitment is ongoing. We are seeking to attract and retain highly qualified faculty that share the University’s and program’s values. Microbiology is a required course for the Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing Degree Program at Mount Saint Mary’s University, and as such, are part of Pre-Nursing Program. The curriculum and syllabus for this course has been standardized across the institution in order to ensure a fair and robust learning experience for all students. The content of Microbiology has carefully selected to cover information that is vital to students to be successful in both the Nursing program as well as a future career in Nursing. Most sections of this course are in-person at one of our two campuses in Los Angeles. One campus, Chalon, is on the Westside of Los Angeles while Doheny is near downtown Los Angeles. Position Range: $2,092.50 per unit General Responsibilities Because Mount Saint Mary’s Biology Department is committed to helping students achieve success in individual courses and in their Pre-Nursing track, we seek adjunct faculty members who are scholars as well as scholar-practitioners. The adjunct faculty member shall be responsible for the following: Teach assigned classes under the supervision of the Biology Department Chair and Pre-Nursing Program Director; Update a syllabus and course timeline based on the template each semester and post it online before class starts. Ensure that course content is in line with all the other sections of the course. Help students fulfill their maximum potential in mastering course content; Actively engage students through frequent interaction that motivates them to succeed and conveys a genuine energy and enthusiasm for their learning. Guide students through their studies using active collaboration and active learning techniques. Provide rich and regular constructive feedback, utilize rubrics effectively to assess student learning outcomes, and acknowledge student accomplishments. Maintain up-to-date grades on the online learning management system; Utilize current technology in the performance of job duties; Send student success alerts as needed to activate support systems for students who need extra help; Submit final grades in a timely fashion; Communicate with the Biology Department Chair and Pre-Nursing Program Director as necessary; Maintain a thorough and up-to-date subject-matter expertise; Maintain standards of professional conduct and ethics appropriate to the professional position; Abide by all relevant university and/or department procedures and policies. Job Requirements: Successful candidates should possess a Master’s degree or Doctoral degree or be a Doctoral candidate in the Biological Sciences, with demonstrated expertise in the field of Microbiology. The candidate will be able to teach undergraduate-level Microbiology. The candidate will adhere to the common curriculum taught across all Microbiology sections. The candidate will be able to integrate technology into the teaching and learning process. The candidate will be able to professionally interact with students, other educators, educational institution representatives, and the public.
