Pharmacists perform the day to day responsibilities of drug distribution, computer drug and IV order processing. Perform therapeutic intervention as needed, drug information and consultation to other professional staff and patients, the maintenance of patient profiles, attendance at cardio-pulmonary emergencies, drug therapy monitoring, and drug compounding. The Staff Pharmacist is also responsible for directing technicians, performing inventory control, and actively precepting pharmacy residents, students, technicians or interns as assigned by the supervisor. This position is a Direct Care Provider as defined in Pharmacy Policy. Reads, interprets and verifies physician orders. Assesses medication orders initially and on an ongoing basis for appropriateness. Prepares and distributes drugs to patients and ensures optimal formulary compliance 35% Provides appropriate direction to technicians regarding daily work-flow and operations. Oversees stock control and assures that no outage of critically needed medications occur. Insures all orders are delivered appropriately and in a timely manner. Performs monthly narcotic inventory and rectification of records. 25% Participates as an active member of the Code Blue Team 5% Collaborates with other team members in providing correct drug and dosage form of delivery for age group and collaborates with nursing to evaluate the effectiveness of therapy considering the age of patient. Participates as an active member of the Code Blue Team. 20% Actively participates as a preceptor to pharmacy students, residents and technician students; actively participates in the training of new staff. Serves as an effective participant on clinical rounds and participates in committee meetings and programs to promote patient care, provider understanding and optimal drug therapy 10% Accurately compounds and dispenses extemporaneous preparations and controlled substances. Appropriately prepares parenteral products using aseptic techniques.
