Department Summary The Ralph J. Bunche Center for African American Studies at UCLA was established as an Organized Research Unit (ORU), with the mission to develop and strengthen African American Studies at UCLA. The Center Supports research that (1) expands the knowledge of the history, lifestyles, and sociocultural systems of people of African descent and (2) investigate problems that have bearing on the psychological, social, and economic well-being of persons of African descent. Research sponsored and conducted by the Bunche Center is multidisciplinary in scope and spans the humanities, social sciences, fine arts, and several professional schools. Position Summary The Bunche Center is seeking a Program Assistant, one that will work primarily with Center related projects and programmatic activities under the direction of the Assistant Director, and will serve as a member of the research team. The Program Assistant will be responsible for coordinating the research activities of the Bunche Center, developing research related materials, managing multiple projects with various deadlines, as well as supporting various other program and initiatives housed at the Center. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications 1 – 3 years Relevant work experience in a higher education setting. (Required) 1 – 3 years Demonstrated ability to interpret relevant research findings. (Preferred) Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changing priorities. (Required) Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, verbally and in writing, in order to convey accurate and timely information to individuals at various organizational levels. (Required) Interpersonal skills to relate effectively with persons of various socio-economic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds, and to interact diplomatically with faculty, university administrators, staff, and students. (Required) Demonstrated ability in working independently and following tasks through to completion. (Required) Skill in defining problems and proposing solutions. (Required) Demonstrated skill in maintaining confidentiality with a high level of personal integrity, discretion, diplomacy, honesty, and professional maturity. (Required) Demonstrated skill in using Microsoft Windows: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. (Required) Knowledge of Bunche Centers goals and objectives. (Preferred) Knowledge of African American history and culture. (Preferred) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor’s Degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training (Required) Special Conditions for Employment Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
