Description
Project Scientist – Human Genetics – Reue Lab University of California Los Angeles Requisition Number: JPF10327 Applications are sought for a full-time Assistant Project Scientist position, with a focus on research in cardiometabolic disease using mouse models, cell culture studies, and omics data generation and analysis. The successful candidate will work as part of an interdisciplinary research team in the laboratory of Dr. Karen Reue in the UCLA Department of Human Genetics and the Metabolism Theme Area. The Reue lab conducts studies aimed at elucidating the basis of sex differences in obesity, fatty liver, postprandial lipid metabolism, exercise biology, and atherosclerosis using mouse models to interrogate the role of sex chromosome dosage and gonadal sex as determinants of these traits. Experience is required with experimental techniques that animal physiology, modulation of gene expression in vivo and in vitro, and omics datasets (e.g., bulk and single cell RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, CUT&RUN, lipidomics, proteomics, and DNA methylomics). The ideal candidate will have an interest in pursuing projects that aim to identify the contributions of chromosomal and gonadal sex determinants to cardiometabolic disease conditions ranging from the in vivo phenotype to the molecular basis for observed sex differences. The candidate should be experienced in, or motivated to learn, computational methods for the interpretation of omics data, and should be enthused to work as a team member within the lab to execute projects in the most efficient and rigorous manner. The candidate should also have experience and demonstrated ability in scientific writing of research manuscripts. A successful candidate will have the following qualifications: PhD in a biological discipline Postdoctoral experience in mouse physiology, molecular biology, and analysis of omics datasets Ability to work in a collaborative interdisciplinary environment Desire to conduct research to enhance the understanding of how biological sex influences cardiometabolic health and disease To apply, please visit: https://recruit.apo.ucla.edu/JPF10327 The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer.
