Position Summary Under the direction of the shift supervisor, staff a 24 hour, 7 day communications center on a rotating shift. Process and record emergency and routine complaints. Dispatch and receive radio calls regarding crimes, patrol, citizen assists, basic information, etc. Operate, update, and maintain computer terminal used for requesting and receiving information from the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System based on officer requests. Provide assistance to public as requested over telephone and public counter. Operate, update, and maintain Computer Assisted Dispatch System. Monitor and direct appropriate response to Police and Fire alarm systems. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications Minimum qualifications for Public Safety Dispatcher include satisfactory completion of a POST-certified, 120-hour Basic Public Safety Dispatcher course within 12 months of the date of hire; undergo a thorough background investigation; an evaluation of oral communication skills; the completion of 12 months’ probation; and the completion of a medical examination. (Required) Ability to prioritize and route multiple telephone calls of various importance, often simultaneously. (Required) Ability to maintain equanimity in difficult situations and with hostile members of the community. (Required) Skill in speaking clearly and distinctly, using correct English to communicate with public and department personnel in a concise and informative manner. (Required) Ability to operate a computer terminal which utilizes California Law Enforcement Telecommunications System and maintain security of same. (Required) Special Conditions for Employment Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation. Live Scan Background Check: A Live Scan background check must be completed prior to the start of employment. Age Requirement: Candidate(s) must be 18 years or older to be eligible to be hired. Pre-Placement Physical: Employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory physical examination. Driving Record: The position is subject to the California DMV “Pull Notice System” and continued employment is contingent upon proof of a satisfactory driving record.
