Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Oversees daily sanitation and food safety by ensuring compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Drives product quality improvements and support continuous process enhancements during production.
- Coordinates with third-party laboratories and manages submission of samples for testing.
- Identifies and resolves product quality and safety issues through effective corrective actions.
- Prepares for and leads SQF and other quality and food safety-related audits; conducts supplier audits as needed.
- Ensures compliance with state and federal agencies, Halal and Organic certifiers, customers, and brokers. Manages USDA label approval and maintains up to date product knowledge.
- Serves as the primary liaison to State, FSIS, and FDA personnel, staying informed of all applicable regulatory codes and mandates.
- Maintains all prerequisite programs related to quality and food safety, including but not limited to: Supplier Approval Program, Customer Complaints, HACCP (USDA and FDA), SSOPs, GMPs, Allergen Program, and Continuous Training.
- Performs monitoring, verification, and validation activities related to SQF and HACCP programs.
- Develops, maintains, and verifies standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all processes impacting food safety and quality.
- Manages product development documentation for commercialization, including, but not limited to, formulations, processing instructions, product labels, product specifications, nutrition facts panels, and ingredient statements.
- Oversees SWPP, wastewater management, and hazardous waste disposal programs to ensure compliance.
- Ensures all equipment calibrations and validations are current and properly documented.
- Communicates to management any unusual situations that may affect operations, production safety, or quality.
- Provides appropriate food safety and quality training to employees based on job responsibilities.
- Collaborates with other departments on budgets, capital projects, and maintenance needs.
- Oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of the SQF food safety system and drives a strong food safety culture throughout the facility.
- Ensures adequate staffing and resources to perform all food safety and quality functions.
- Prepares and presents the annual budget for food safety and quality resource needs.
- Ensures facilities and grounds are maintained to the highest sanitation standards. Conducts food safety risk assessments for any new construction or equipment.
- Maintains professionalism, confidentiality, and ethical standards at all times.
