Job Summary Under the direction of the Director of the Buildings & Grounds and Sustainability Manager, this position serves as a working Lead responsible for coordinating activities required for the campus-wide recycling program. Oversees the recycling yard operations, coordinates work for the recycling team, develops reports, and establishes a culture of safety by following and supporting all regulatory and Institute’s safety guidelines. Represents and communicates with campus community and city regarding recycling support and programs. Essential Job Duties Responsible for following all safety procedures and maintaining a safe and secure work environment. Performs safety inspections of recycling equipment, such as, 3 cubic-yard bins, baler, forklift, recycling vehicles, and acts as a point of contact for equipment routine maintenance. Operate baler, forklift, lift-gate truck, scout truck to bale and move recyclables collected throughout the campus. Monitors recycling services staff, for safe and proper use of equipment required to achieve recycling goals. Assists with the monitoring of the Recycling Work Order system, which includes closing completed work orders, monitors customer requests, and periodically coordinates special requests. Provides support for all campus events and projects. This includes student move-in and move-out and commencement. Maintain records and statistics on volume, tonnage, and contents of recyclables collected from various campus points of generation. Assist with development of reports such as regulatory information to the City of Pasadena, and CalRecycle as required. Assist during CalRecycle campus audit inspections. Maintain order, cleanliness, and the operational capability of the Campus Recycling Center and other campus areas required for recycling activities. Assist with coordinating and enhancing the recycling collection efforts and help arrange the different collection systems for various materials. Supports the Buildings & Grounds Services with non-recycling services, such as janitorial or event support when needed. Basic Qualifications High School or equivalent experience. Minimum 3 years waste management, recycling, or custodial experience. Must possess a valid California driver’s license and be able to drive Institute vehicles. Must be eligible and be able to adhere to the Institute’s Motor Vehicle policy. Must possess a current forklift operator’s certification or be able to obtain one before employment begins and maintain it throughout the course of employment. Must be able to effectively use a computer and navigate using Outlook, Word, and Excel. Efficient communication skills (both written and verbal) — understand and follow verbal and written directions and effectively express ideas, suggestions, and recommendations both verbally and in writing. Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and organizational skills. Must be able to work assigned work scheduled hours. (5:00am – 1:30pm – Monday – Friday) with potential overtime hours as needed/required. Must be able to lift, push and pull 50 lbs. on a regular basis. Performs physical activities that require considerable use of arms, legs and moving whole body, for climbing, lifting, pushing, balancing, walking, and stooping during the work shift. Ability to work outdoors, in all-weather conditions, and assigned work schedule (5:00am-1:30pm, Monday-Friday.) Preferred Qualifications Ability to collaborate harmoniously with people from a variety of backgrounds. One year in a lead or leadership position is highly desirable. Bilingual ability (English/Spanish) preferred. An Associate degree preferred.
