Special Instructions to Applicants This is a one year contract position with the potential for an extension. Department Summary As a leading Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department in the country and around the world, our faculty and students conduct trailblazing research in broad interdisciplinary areas of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering: from rockets and spacecraft, to robots, medicine, advanced materials, energy and sustainability. Position Summary The PI’s active Office of Naval Research (ONR) award requires the engineering of hardware- based robotics demonstrations in collaboration with non-UCLA institutions. Such demo development efforts are peripheral to the responsibilities of UCLA doctoral students currently funded by the project. The original budget planned for the hiring of two R&D Engineer staff for the proposed purpose. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Salary offers at the top of the range are not common. Qualifications Proficiency in the development and implementation of real-time, sensory feedback-driven controllers on robot hardware for reach, grasp, and manipulation (Preferred) Proficiency with machine learning and computer vision techniques (Preferred) Experience with acquiring and processing multimodal sensor data (computer vision,tactile, proprioceptive) (Preferred) Experience with the development and testing of tactile sensor technology (Preferred) Experience with wearable visuotactile display hardware and software (Preferred) Experience with human-machine interfaces and shared autonomy systems (Preferred) Demonstrated ability to manage simultaneously a wide range of active research projects & responsibilities, to adapt to evolving research priorities, to set & achieve goals, & to meet project deadlines (Required) Excellent written and oral technical communication skills (Required) Software — extensive experience with computer languages such as C/C++ & Python, proficiency with ROS, and prior experience with the design of machine learning, perception and/or control algorithms (Required) Mechatronics — extensive experience with CAD-based design, circuit design, andprototyping of electromechanical devices (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Master’s Degree in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience along with hands-on experience with real robot hardware.
