The USC Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences is seeking an Instructional Laboratory Technician in the Department of Biological Sciences. The largest and oldest of the USC schools, USC Dornsife functions as the academic core of the university, offering courses and advancing knowledge across the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences. The Department of Biological Sciences is comprised of four sections: human and evolutionary biology, marine and environmental biology, molecular and computational biology, and neurobiology. A diversity of upper-division undergraduate and graduate courses enables students to gain a deep appreciation of organisms, from their molecular underpinnings to their interactions within ecosystems. We help students refine skills in critical thinking, communication, and collaboration, and develop an understanding of how biology can contribute to solving societys challenges. We also offer students the opportunity to participate in the discovery of new knowledge by working alongside our faculty members in their research laboratories. Undergraduates in Biological Sciences have the opportunity to become involved in laboratory or field research. Students who complete our degree programs will be well prepared for professional careers in the health sciences, as well as for careers in research and education in the basic biological and biomedical fields, and many other professions. The Instructional Laboratory Technician will be responsible for providing technical services and support for the instructional laboratory program in the Department of Biological Sciences. The successful candidate will have knowledge of laboratory procedures and equipment specific to areas of instruction, and the ability to plan, prioritize, organize, and schedule activities to meet short-term and long-term deadlines. Responsibilities: Providing technical services and support for instructional labs; Preparing chemical solutions, cultures, media, reagents, or other materials for use in instructional laboratory experiments; Scheduling and overseeing setups and maintenance of one or more instructional labs; Organizing and maintaining supplies and monitoring inventory levels and ordering chemicals, supplies, and equipment as needed; Ensuring compliance with guidelines for hazardous waste disposal. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelors degree in a natural science Two years of experience in specialized/technical training is preferred. Combined experience and education may substitute for minimum education requirements. Hourly Range: The hourly rate range for this position is $21.88 – $27.31.
