About this role:
Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Asset Based Lending Underwriter to execute on asset based lending opportunities for a variety of ABL clients from small to large. Clients include public companies, private equity groups, and small to mid-sized entrepreneur/privately owned businesses. Facility sizes range from $20MM to $500M+. The UW is expected to work closely with our Middle Market Bank and other line of business’s under Wells Fargo Commercial Capital to build strong relationships and enhance credit and other economic opportunities with prospective customers. This individual will be responsible for independently underwriting and closing a variety of complex transactions and is expected to respond independently to large and complex issues. The Senior Underwriter works with a high degree of autonomy and serves as the leader for transactions in partnership with junior employees on all aspects of the new business transaction process.
In this role, you will:
- Lead transactional deal team by coordinating with originations, portfolio management, credit, and product partners to underwrite, document, and close new asset-based loans for public and private companies, including sponsor-owned, ranging in size from $15 million to $1 billion+
- Analyze and understand collateral, historical and projected financial statements, cash flows, liquidity, relevant valuation metrics, and market significance
- Coordinate and drive the scope of third-party due diligence including collateral focused field examinations; inventory, equipment, real estate, and intellectual property appraisals; environment assessments; quality of earnings review; and background investigations
- Develop and maintain a positive relationship with prospective clients throughout the underwriting process
- Organize diligence meetings to assess the quality and strength of management and develop a deeper understanding of the borrower’s business, financial profile, and industry
- Identify critical transactional and structural risks, complete in-depth diligence on critical focus areas, and propose situation appropriate mitigants or structuring alternatives
- Complete comprehensive credit approval and funding memos
- Present underwritten transactions to credit and senior management in a clear and concise manner with well-reasoned support
- Expertly structure loans and negotiate legal documents to ensure the transaction is appropriately documented in accordance with credit approval
- Manage client and internal constituents expectations throughout the approval and loan closing process through frequent and effective communication
- Accurately complete all compliance requirements including leverage lending, high risk borrowers, exception tracking, risk ratings, and financial crimes
- Oversee seamless onboarding of new clients in coordination with Portfolio Management
- Actively engage on special projects, and as a mentor to junior team members

Required Qualifications:
- 7+ years of Secured Lending Underwriting experience, or equivalent experience demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, or education
Desired Qualifications:
- Prior asset based lending experience and strong understanding of accounting and legal documentation
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a highly collaborative work environment
- Experience with private equity firms
- Cross-border lending experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance or Economics
Pay Range
Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.
$120,400.00 – $262,600.00
