Job Summary

Executes complex operational and financial audits and advisory projects, assessing the adequacy and effectiveness of systems, processes and controls. Works closely with Audit Service and Institute Compliance (ASIC) management and staff and Institute management to communicate results of projects and resolve issues identified. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

This position may occasionally oversee the work of personnel who are assigned to individual projects that they are working on.

Essential Job Duties

  • Plans and conducts complex audits of unit/department/division systems, processes, and controls in accordance with professional standards, Institute policies and procedures, and industry best practices.
  • Plans audit engagements, including developing and executing the strategy and risk-based programs; conducts investigations and analysis of suspected irregular conduct.
  • Evaluates operations or programs to ascertain whether results are consistent with established objectives and values; consults with client on ways to enhance operational effectiveness.
  • Participates in producing the audit schedule for project completion and determines project scope and objectives, and deadlines.
  • Through the audit process, grasps an understanding of unit/department/division resources and operations; assesses strengths and weaknesses of a function and advises clients on methods for taking advantage of opportunities to reduce costs and improve processes.
  • Develops and oversees the preparation of relevant documents to support conclusions for audit and/or advisory projects. Presents audit findings and recommendations to management via formal audit reports and oral presentations.
  • Fosters and uses strong internal and external relationships to ensure the highest level of audit and advisory services.
  • Applies knowledge of laws, regulations, grants, contracts, and Institute policies and procedures to identify discrepancies in organizational policies, practices, and/or procedures.
  • Demonstrates a high level of judgment and initiative to overcome project obstacles and evaluate information.
  • Utilizes appropriate computer-assisted audit techniques to increase effectiveness and efficiency in the audit process.
  • Utilizes data science to analyzes available data sets and identify trends and potential issues.
  • Facilitates the development, implementation, and communication of audit policies and procedures to staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
  • Six or more years of audit, advisory, and compliance experience.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of laws, regulations, grants, and contracts to identify discrepancies in organizational policies, practices, and/or procedures.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of emerging trends in higher education and/or aerospace.
  • High level of judgment and initiative in overcoming project obstacles, evaluating information, and making recommendations.
  • Strong analytical skills with ability to identify and assess risk and exposures across a wide variety of processes.
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work as part of a team or independently as an individual contributor.
  • Must have necessary credentials to work at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory: US Citizenship or Permanent Residency

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor is preferred.
  • Experience in higher education or aerospace
