Nonprofit organization dedicated to patient-focused scientific research is looking for an experienced Budget Accountant. The Budget Accountant reports directly to the Controller in the Accounting and Finance department and oversees the full-life cycle of budget analysis and reporting. As a Budget Accountant, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy of both the budget and departmental financial statements, while providing valuable insights to support business decisions. This position will allocate 60%-70% of the time to budget preparation and analysis, and 30%-40% to accounting tasks. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. • Under general supervision, lead or assist in the preparation, review, implementation, and ongoing analysis of operating and program budgets. • Conduct complex financial analysis, forecasting, and prepare budget reports to support informed decision-making. • Act as the budget liaison between the Finance Department and operating departments; perform a variety of professional tasks related to this area of responsibility. • Monitor budget performance throughout the fiscal year, identifying variances and providing timely recommendations for corrective actions. • Collaborate with department heads to develop, review, and analyze budget proposals and requests. • Assist departments with budget implementation and budget change requests. • Prepare the annual budget accurately and on time. • Coordinate the distribution of budgets and related materials. • Respond to a variety of inquiries regarding budget procedures and informational needs from different sources. • Monitor approved budget allocations and prepares and distributes monthly budget vs. actual reports. • Assist with monthly journal entries and adjusting journal entries. • Assist with the preparation and review of financial statements monthly. • Analyze financial statements for discrepancies and raise alerts when necessary. • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes. • Assist with the annual audit. • Perform other accounting duties as required or assigned. • Participate in special projects and provide ad-hoc support as required by the Controller. EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE: – Education: Bachelor(s) degree or higher in accounting or finance – Minimum 3 years of experience in budget development, monitoring, implementation, and accounting – Knowledge: Budget concepts and methods, with hands-on experience in preparing and monitoring an annual budget. Candidates must possess knowledge of budget development, monitoring, and reporting principles and practices; financial analysis and modeling methods and tools; principles and practices of revenue forecasting; and automated financial systems. – Skills: Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, Budget Reporting, ERP systems (NetSuite is a plus), and advanced Excel skills. – Problem-Solving and Decision-Making: Proven ability to identify issues, analyze data, and propose effective solutions in a timely manner. – Time Management: Proven ability to prioritize tasks efficiently, balancing multiple deadlines and demands, while maintaining productivity and attention to detail.
