RESPONSIBILITIES
Howmet Fastening Systems (HFS) is seeking Senior Buyer in our Fullerton, CA location.
Summary
Position is responsible for cost reduction activities within specified commodities or locations and optimizing the buying process for those commodities.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for working with the other regional and locations buyers to coordinate like buying activities and to implement the appropriate optimize processes for those buys using the proper procurement tools and technology.
- Responsible for sourcing lowest-cost, best lead time material, products, and/or services.
- Responsible for working closely with Planning, to save on cost and lead time, and also to avoid excess purchases.
- Responsible for managing reduction of inventory, by reviewing inventory to use toward future purchases.
- Responsible for developing scorecards and improvement plans for suppliers, to share with suppliers at routine business reviews.
- Responsible for developing negotiation strategies and bringing forth new negotiation ideas to the table. Responsible for owning negotiation projects and bringing negotiation results to fruition.
- Expected to take an active role in the buying process. Areas of procurement responsibility include, but are not limited to capital projects, operating and maintenance supplies, contractors, engineering, maintenance and service contracts, and third party outsourcing of production processes or professional services.
- Interact frequently with members of the Howmet Procurement Operations team, Leverage Procurement, C.O.E and RtP organizations, and provide assistance and data when requested in support of corporate leveraging initiatives.
- May also interact with the GBS RtP/Accounts Payable teams to reconcile invoice and payment problems and drive root cause solutions.
- Responsible for identifying and implementing cost reduction activities at the location using the optimized process.
- Responsible for ensuring the location is supplied with goods and services required to maintain continuous operation, as required by business conditions.
- Responsible for weighing appropriate risk factors when making buy/supply decisions.
- Responsible for compliance with all applicable Howmet standards and local regulations for the location. Maybe required to provide data for procurement related ASAT, customer ISO and other audit protocols required by the business.
- Accountable for any corrective actions generated by audits affecting buying activities at that location.
- Keeps work area clean, safe and in an orderly fashion on a daily basis.
- Performs other tasks of equal or lesser skill as required
QUALIFICATIONS
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum of five (5) years’ of purchasing experience
- Comfortable with shop floor conditions and at times locating work orders, and/or parts. Majority of tasks will be done in an office setting, but some shop floor interaction is necessary.
- Bachelor’s Degree in from an accredited institution in a business, engineering or accounting discipline
- Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to read and interpret shop floor routers, technical drawings, and blue prints
- 3 years buying experience in commodities such as CNC machining, raw material, sheet metal fabrication, stamping, investment casting, forging, paint, plate and other coatings.

- The employee is responsible to maintain fitness-for-duty while holding the above-described position and should be able to perform the essential tasks of the position in a safe, appropriate and effective manner. This refers to the physical, mental and emotional duties of the job.
- Reaching above and below, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and bending.
- The employee must occasionally lift / carry / move up to 25 pounds.
- Needs a high degree of concentration in a busy office environment.
- Need to be able to wear safety steel toe shoes and walk around at shop floor environment as needed.
- Do not wear loose clothing (e.g. skirts , scarfs, etc) in the shop production area. Be able to remove dangling jewelry for shop floor assigned tasks, and wear hearing protection as needed.
Benefits/Salary:
The position includes competitive wages and a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance (medical, dental, vision), excellent 401k matching program, paid holidays and vacation. The salary range for this position is $72,000.00 to $95,000.00 per year
