Department Summary The UCLA Capital Programs organization is responsible for the planning, design, and construction of major capital improvement projects in support of UCLA academic and administrative clients. The Design and Construction unit of Capital Programs is responsible for maintenance of campus design standards, design professional selection and supervision, project design, programming, architectural, engineering, project management, construction management and inspection services, project budget and schedule integrity, and regulatory compliance for on and off campus construction and alteration projects. Position Summary Under direction of the architect or structural engineer of record, or both, and supervision of the Chief Inspector/Lead Inspector Record, provide inspection as specified by California Code of Regulations Title 24, for that work contained in the approved project documents. Assist design professionals, Manager of Quality Assurance, lead field Inspector of Record and project managers as field liaison with contractors and campus clients. Document the construction process and provide reports regarding construction to design professionals. Ensure that “As-Built” information is recorded on the drawings during construction. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications Experience with and knowledge of basic electrical and mechanical requirements, underground utilities, pressure piping, and expansion compensation, supports and anchors of mechanical systems, variable (Required) Experience in building construction work including institutional, medical, commercial, residential and laboratory. (Required) Demonstrated working knowledge of California Administrative code for plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems, specifically building codes, OSHPD regulations, DSA, and handicapped access regulations. (Required) Detailed knowledge of construction techniques and procedures. (Required) Ability to exercise independent judgment. (Required) Ability to read and interpret construction contract documents, specifications, drawings, and related technical data. (Required) Working knowledge of construction schedules and cost estimating. Ability to perform simple arithmetic computations for construction layout and estimating. (Required) Skill in writing construction progress and contract compliance reports. (Required) Ability to work with project specific computer hardware and software. (Required) Ability to carry out inspections in a variety of conditions and locations, e.g., ceiling and crawl spaces. (Required) Skill in working as part of a team and collaborating with colleagues. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with supervisor, co-workers, campus personnel, design professionals, and contractors. Ability to communicate tactfully and effectively with a variety of people. (Required) Skill in prioritizing assignments to complete work in a timely manner when there are changes in workload and competing assignments. (Required) Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal direction. (Required) Ability to work outside standard hours.
