Overview
Albertsons seeks to offer our customers an easy, exciting, and friendly e-commerce shopping experience through the development of personalized and localized digital experiences for our 34 million-plus weekly customers. The Digital Shopping Experience team builds the app, web, and voice experiences that begin with a comprehensive view of our ever-evolving customers, from who they are, why they are here, to what they like and how they behave.
The Principal Researcher / Senior Manager of Research will collaborate directly with customers, designers, developers, and leadership teams to help pioneer the future of grocery digital interaction and establish Albertsons as an industry leader. This Role
As Principal Researcher / Senior Manager of Research, you will drive the development of new research paradigms and practices to better understand how customers interface with grocery and food shopping today, and how their interactions can be further enhanced in the future. The ideal candidate will thrive on the challenge of analyzing feedback from our varying customer bases and segments across multiple channels, informing intuitive customer experiences while balancing complex and competing priorities. Research activities will be generative (e.g., study design, field work, analysis) and evaluative (e.g., usability studies, concept evaluation).
You will also be responsible for guiding the research practice at Albertsons and scaling our research team. In addition, you will be responsible for research tools, methodologies, and measurements of success for the research practice. You will inform ways of working and research best practices within our organization. The team will look to you to be the thought leader on research methods, customer journeys, and industry-level consumer trends and insights.
In this role, you will take on our most complex and foundational work, guiding near- and long-term investments. You will be responsible for improving our understanding of customer needs and continually refining and expanding the vision for Albertsons’ customer experience. This role is part of the Shopper Experience team at Albertsons. Our team includes product managers, product designers, data analysts, and user researchers.
Key Responsibilities Include, but Are Not Limited To:
- Be the voice of our shoppers to Albertsons. Have a keen understanding of their needs and wants, and bring empathy, accessibility, and understanding to the forefront of our experiences.
- Evangelize the customer’s perspective to internal business stakeholders.
- Work with design and product leads to identify areas where research can best provide insight and impact in our product roadmap.
- Work with product teams to identify and prioritize user research requirements, including timelines, scope, and methodologies.
- Design, lead, and execute timely research studies for strategic, actionable insights that provide clear direction for action and meet business goals.
- Establish research and usability strategies and customer feedback metrics for project teams.
- Establish and govern a panel of users that we can leverage for timely and accurate qualitative feedback.
- Be an agent of change: advance the future-state vision for the UX research practice, identifying areas of opportunity or improvement, including process improvements, new tools, and approaches.
- Foster collaboration between Design, Research, Design Operations, and Product, and establish a strong rapport with other research groups within the organization.
- Work with C-suite stakeholders and provide top-executive-quality frameworks and insights to support business goals.
- Establish and maintain governance of research reports and repositories.
- Support other researchers, leading by example, to ensure quality and consistency of deliverables and best practices.
- Hire, coach, and mentor research team members.
We are looking for candidates who possess the following:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree, or equivalent professional experience.
- 8+ years of planning and executing user research experience in various research methods.
- Experience with both generative and evaluative user research.
- 5+ years of experience in consumer technology.
- Experience in creating research roadmaps, journey maps, personas, research plans, moderator guides, and research reports.
- Proven ability to manage multiple research requests and mentor junior resources assisting with project work while juggling competing project priorities and deadlines.
- Ability to champion user experience research and integrate it within the agile design planning, estimation, and prioritization process.
- A portfolio of past projects.
- Ability to train and mentor junior team members.

The salary range is $158,000 to $205,000 annually. Starting salary will vary based on criteria such as location, experience, and qualifications. There may be flexibility for exceptional candidates. Benefits may include medical, dental, vision, disability and life insurance, sick pay (accrued based on hours worked), PTO/Vacation Pay (accrued based on hours worked) or Flexible Time Off, paid holidays (8-9 days annually), bereavement pay, and retirement benefits (such as 401(k) eligibility). Associates in this position are also eligible for a quarterly bonus.
