Special Instructions to Applicants The budgeted hiring salary/target range for this position is from $75,000 to $85,000 annually, with salary placement based on skills, knowledge, and experience. Position Summary Under the general direction of the Director for Mobility Planning sist with implementation of campus transportation plans, such as the Sustainable Transportation Plan and the Active Transportation Plan. Coordinate with and assist other Transportation units in gathering and vetting data and information for inclusion in various department plans and reports. Coordinate implementation of various plans with the operational units within the department. Perform extensive outreach activities with both neighboring jurisdictions such as the City of Los Angeles and the City of Santa Monica, and on-campus outreach to numerous stakeholders and departmental partners. Conduct various studies, surveys, and field reviews in support of UCLA’s extensive, award-winning Transportation Demand Management (TDM) program. Perform a wide range of transportation planning duties in support of the bicycle, pedestrian, TDM, and sustainable transportation programs, while focusing on today’s transportation issues. The position provides exposure to all facets of transportation planning, including: traffic monitoring; transit surveys and studies; vanpool, carpool, bicycle and pedestrian planning; and development impacts. Qualifications Two to three years of work experience in transportation planning is sufficient in lieu of a relevant master?s degree. (Required) 1. Demonstrated experience with Geographic Information Systems applications, specifically the creation of digital map data sets, and how to symbolize and analyze those using a geoprocessing tool kit for various tasks. (Required) 2. Expertise with and an understanding of sustainable transportation and transportation demand management programs. (Required) 3. Demonstrated strong writing, editing and presentation skills. (Required) 4. Skill in conducting research, gathering data, performing data analysis on sets of data, and developing reports. This includes constructing tables, charts and graphs from compiled data. (Required) 5. Ability to consult with individuals on all levels to obtain information and identify options for solutions to problems, following departmental guidelines, regulations, and University policies and procedures. (Required) 6. Skill in databases such that producing SQL database queries and reports can be done with minimal assistance. (Required) 7. Skill in analyzing information, problems, situations, practices, and procedures to define the problem and formulate logical and objective conclusions. (Required) 8. Ability to handle highly confidential matters with tact and diplomacy and to maintain confidentiality of information as needed to protect the rights of individuals or the University. (Required) 9. Ability to juggle numerous interest groups and maintain positive relationships with all such parties interested in active transportation at UCLA. (Required) 10. Experience with traffic counting methodologies. (Required) 11. Expertise in bicycle and pedestrian planning, including knowledge of laws and policies related to bicycling and pedestrian issues. (Required) 12. Knowledge of the Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and its applicability to campus roadways. (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor’s Degree Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience required. (Required) Master’s Degree Master?s degree in a relevant field preferred.
