The Electronic Warfare & Signal Processing group is looking to hire an experienced Senior Principal Lead Systems Engineer with knowledge and technical expertise in Systems and Software Engineering to provide technical leadership to multi-disciplinary program teams in support of designing, developing, and deploying software products containing advanced RF capabilities to address emerging threats. This position requires the ability to drive technical solutions for multi-disciplined technical teams during all phases of capture and development.
This position is full-time on-site in El Segundo, CA in support of Advanced Technologies programs.
What You Will Do
- Develop innovative solutions to complex technical challenges involving multiple subsystem and system interactions (system of systems) as an Individual Contributor, Technical Lead, or both.
- Work with program leadership to manage a multi-disciplined engineering team to define, develop, and prototype software capabilities and interfaces to create or evolve current software and system architectures in support of customer defined requirements.
- Actively partake in definition of team objectives and provide solutions to complex technical tasks including SW and system level integration of real-time software, modelling and simulation, rapid prototype SW development, system integration with dev pipeline and field demonstration, processing real-world data, trade studies in system and algorithm design, and initial requirements allocation and verification.
- Understand the customer’s architecture needs and desired capabilities and participate in requirements decomposition to ensure appropriate allocation to technical architecture elements.
- Provide systems/software engineering expertise for bids on future development activities.
What You Will Learn
- Verbal and written communication skills for engagement with program management, technical team members, customers, subcontractors, and industry partners.
- Manage products throughout the lifecycle and support new business efforts. Development efforts will be focused on front end development, with a vision towards extending and transitioning to end users/systems.
Qualifications You Must Have
- Typically requires bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and ten (10) years of engineering experience OR an advanced degree with eight (8) years of engineering experience.
- Experience leading and training technical teams of junior to mid-level systems engineers and analysts, interfacing with customers, and the ability to balance development priorities with near/long term program objectives.
- Experience with system/software architecture design principles and constructs in one or more of the following areas: developing requirements and interface definitions, developing architecture, implementing, integrating, or testing.
- Experience with Signal Processing (AMTI), Tracking, Communications, or Resource Management.
- Active and transferable U.S. government issued Secret security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.
Qualifications We Prefer
- Active DoD Top Secret clearance with investigation within five years.
- Experience analyzing engineering problems and identifying root causes to design solutions and resolve challenging technical problems in a multiple stakeholder environment.
- Experience in planning, managing, and leading execution of integration, verification, and validation activities for of prototyped software/ products in both lab and field environments.
- Experience with new business development for prototype system programs.
- Experience developing and maintaining software systems using one or more of the following: C, C++, Java, Python, and MATLAB.
- Experience in Continuous Integration practices and Dev-ops automation on various operating systems including Linux.

The salary range for this role is 130,000 USD – 272,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.

Payments under these annual programs are not guaranteed and are dependent upon a variety of factors including, but not limited to, individual performance, business unit performance, and/or the company’s performance.
