CIVIL & ENVIRONMENTAL PRACTICE

Michael Baker International’s civil engineering professionals manage and staff active projects in over 40 countries on five continents. Services are provided for a broad range of projects and capabilities, including highways, airports, bridges, rail and transit systems, government and commercial facilities, water and wastewater infrastructure, oil and gas infrastructure, and commercial/urban development. DESCRIPTION

A Senior Project Manager of Land Development is responsible for overseeing all aspects of complex land development projects from conception to completion, including site planning, permitting, construction management, and project closeout, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure timely delivery within budget and quality standards, often working with both private and public sector clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Project Planning & Management:

• Lead the development of comprehensive project plans, including timelines, budgets, resource allocation, and risk mitigation strategies.

• Manage project schedules, track progress against key milestones, and identify potential issues proactively.

• Oversee all aspects of site development, including grading, utilities, drainage, and landscaping.

  • Permitting & Approvals:

• Navigate complex permitting processes with local agencies, including zoning, environmental, and construction approvals.

• Prepare and submit necessary documentation to ensure compliance with regulations.

• Collaborate with engineers, surveyors, and legal counsel to address permitting challenges.

  • Team Leadership:

• Assemble and lead cross-functional project teams comprised of engineers, architects, surveyors, contractors, and consultants.

• Mentor projects managers and other junior staff effectively to encourage their growth in engineering and leadership.

• Delegate tasks effectively, provide clear direction, and foster collaboration within the team.

• Monitor team performance, provide feedback, and address any issues promptly.

  • Client Management:

• Maintain strong relationships with clients, understand their needs, and proactively communicate project updates.

• Address client concerns and manage expectations throughout the project lifecycle.

• Present project proposals, budgets, and progress reports to key stakeholders.

  • Financial Oversight:

• Track project expenditures, monitor budgets, and identify cost-saving opportunities.

• Manage contracts with vendors and subcontractors, ensuring compliance

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Urban Planning, or a related field
  • 20+ years of experience in land development project management, with a proven track record of successful project delivery
  • Comprehensive understanding of land development regulations, permitting processes, and construction practices
  • Expertise in project management methodologies and software tools
  • Strong leadership and communication skills to effectively manage diverse teams and client relationships
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities to identify and address project challenges
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, GIS, and other relevant design software

COMPENSATION

The approximate compensation range for this position $119,662.40 – $207,313.60

per year. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
