Department Summary The MIMG department mission is to provide the highest quality research and education possible in the interdisciplinary fields of Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics. To meet this goal, we work together as scientists, educators and students to identify and address the most relevant problems in microbial pathogenesis and physiology, host cell biology and immune defense, and the host-pathogen interface. Position Summary Under supervision of the Principal Investigator of the lab, the SRA will assist with a variety of experiments related to host-microbiome interactions at the cellular and molecular level, including in vivo (mouse) work, gnotobiotic mouse work, tissue culture, anaerobic microbiology, and molecular biology. In addition to performing or assisting with experiments, the SRA will take a central role in management of a mouse colony and a secondary role in aiding in laboratory management. Training will be provided directly from the Principal Investigator in all areas. Salary & Compensation *UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications Experience handling mice. (Required) Experience in basic molecular biology (DNA extraction, PCR). (Required) Basic knowledge of genetics, molecular, and cellular biology concepts. (Required) Ability to follow ARC guidelines for caring for mice and take responsibility as primary caretaker. (Required) Basic computer skills (MS Excel, GraphPad Prism). (Required) Willingness to learn new methodologies. (Required) Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working conditions and relationships. (Required) Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations Bachelor’s Degree in Biological Sciences or an equivalent combination of education and experience (Required) Special Conditions for Employment Background Check: Continued employment is contingent upon the completion of a satisfactory background investigation.
