Description

The Department of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology is seeking to hire a motivated Staff Research Associate to join a research team investigating the molecular mechanisms that drive metabolic dysfunction and insulin resistance. This role offers handsâon experience with both in vivo and molecular biology techniques central to metabolic research.

You will maintain a genetically engineered mouse colony, perform tissue dissections, and support rodent exercise training protocols. Laboratory responsibilities include DNA, RNA, and protein isolation, qRTâPCR, and immunoblotting, contributing directly to ongoing experimental studies. You will also assist with general lab organization, equipment upkeep, and maintaining a clean, efficient research environment.

Hourly range: $28.69-$34.21

*Note, this is a part-time 25% limited opportunity which may convert to career

Qualifications

Required:

  • General knowledge of substrate metabolism and exercise physiology
  • Good work ethic, communication skills and ability to work well independently or as a part of a group.
  • Understanding of University procedures and policies for ordering and biohazard, radioactive and chemical waste disposal.
  • Working knowledge of the microscope and basic laboratory equipments (centrifuge, incubators, spectrophotometer, PCR, Q-PCR).
  • Skill in using MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint. 
  • Excellent skills in problem solving and data analysis, organization and presentation.  
  • General knowledge of chemistry and meticulous preparation of reagents. 

Preferred:

  • BS in Molecular Biology, Physiology or Chemistry.
  • Experienced in working with mice and ARC certified to work with mice.
