Position Summary

Under the supervision of a Senior Superintendent, lead a small crew of Stationary Operating Engineers and Facility Workers who inspect, maintain, repair, modify and/or alter the high pressure steam generating, heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems on the campus. In addition to performing the full range of duties o fa Stationary Operating Engineer, assign work orders to subordinates; provide workers with job instructions; monitor job performance and report to the Senior Superintendent on an ongoing basis. Review the accuracy of hours charged against job; order materials and supplies; respond to emergency calls by assigning appropriate personnel; train subordinates; and perform miscellaneous job-related duties as requested by the Supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of functions, operation and servicing procedures for various HVAC systems, steam distribution, water treatment absorption/centrifugal refrigeration, water conditioning, pumps, piping, steam turbines, emergency generators, motor air compressors and auxiliary knowledge of related equipment (Required)
  • Have knowledge of computerized state-of-the-art technology, e.g., temperature controls, HVAC fan, filtration systems, dampers, and chillers. (Required)
  • Skill in analyzing information concerning the efficient/economical operation of heating, ventilation, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment in order to complete reports and/or make recommendations. (Required)
  • Ability to schedule, layout, coordinate and monitor work projects (Required)
  • Ability to orally communicate instructions in a clear, concise and grammatically correct manner. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with peers, subordinates, supervisors, administrators and customers (Required)
  • Ability to direct and inspect the work of subordinates, including: organizing work flow to accomplish established objectives and Ability for training, and evaluating subordinate effectiveness against job requirements (Required)
  • Ability to resolve any inaccuracies in workmanship and/or correct customer concerns (Required)
  • Oral communication skills to obtain and convey clear, concise and grammatically correct information. (Required)
  • Working knowledge of UBC, OSHA and ADA requirements as it relates to the trade (Required)
  • Working knowledge of personal computer and software sufficient to review computerized building and maintenance management systems (Required)
  • Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations

  • Have a EPA 608 Universal Technician Certification (Required)
  • Have a Los Angeles Unlimited Stationary Engineer License (Required)
